carburetor replacement need advice

i am tired of my quadrajet piece of crap! i bought what i thought was to be a complete gone through rebuilt carb. it has been on the truck for about a month and it floods, overloads and runs like crap until i get it on the highway and settles down and runs & idles smooth after that. on the receipt it has a 5yr warranty and when i called the number for the shop they were no longer in business. the cost of the one i bought was $210. i called mister carburetor in cedar hill, tx and they want $235 to go through it and completely redo it again. i would rather just buy a brand new one. what is the best 600 cfm carburetor out there for a stock 350 with the stock intake manifold?

ive had good luck with my eldebrock 1406, but its all on preference i guess, I'm sure some will agree and disagree with me, and they are easy to rebuild yourself

Whoa!! Back up!!
It's not your carb!
It's a cold intake!
Any other carb will do the same thing.
My 84 does the same thing. Stock quadrajet. No heat from the exhaust to the air cleaner and no heat riser valve, so no heat in the crossover under the intake. I run headers and a chrome air cleaner.

i do have the stock air cleaner with valve and heating tube from the right side exhaust. just the other day i went and had breakfast and came out 25 minutes later and to start the truck and it would turn over and not run. finally i got it to run and a huge amount of fuel smoke blew out the tail pipes and you could just smell the odor of fuel.

also it was running rough so i started checking vaccum lines and i pulled the line to the pcv valve from the carb and put a plug in it and it ran better not going through the pcv valve. i did check the valve and it was not bad.

there is a problem with the accelorator pump on the carb to i am constantly having to hit the pedal to bump it down before i come to a complete stop and sometimes it doesnt bump down as well.

JUst because you have the tube doesn't mean it's working. Does the valve in the cleaner snout close. Is the heat riser closing or hooked up?
Next time you get it warmed up and park it, look in the carb before you start it. Shouldn't see any raw fuel. Might be flooding.

That's not your accelerator pump. That's from a too rich setting on your choke.

the valve is hooked up and open. i dont know if it closes after it has heated up to running temp. i have also noticed since at idle oil pressure fluctuates and on the gauge it shows around 10 to 20 but when i am highway its at 60.

how do you adjust the choke setting?

Look here. Starts on bottom of page 2.
http://www.vetteprojects.com/kstyer/quadrajet.htm

There's also a possibility that your needle was hung on the float wrong. A lot of the reman carbs are done wrong. Makes it flood. Here's another good link to explain it. About 1/2 way down the page.

Dump it and get a holley.

I dumped the Holley and went with an Edelbrock. To be fair the Holley has sat a while and had a scrappy rebuild. Still like the Edelbrock though.
