Rear End Help
I have a 1970 c30 chevy one ton truck and I am trying to figure out what rear end is under it. I have been looking around to try to find information on it but everything Ive found shows one with a drop out 3rd member. Mine does not have this and looks more like a dana. Was a dana ever offered in this year model truck? I know it has 4:56 gears and the truck was an original v8 with chevy 4spd.
Any help is much appreciated! Thank you |
Re: Rear End Help
There were Eaton reare ends put under these trucks too. No drop out 3rd member, and they have a rear pan with 10 bolts holding on the cover. Post up a pic.

Re: Rear End Help
That looks a lot like a 14 bolt FF that did not come in these trucks until around 1976.
So it's possible it was swapped in. If so, it's a damn good rear end (bomb proof), and parts are easy to find but can get pricey. Gary |
Re: Rear End Help
Yup, looks like a 14bolt to me too. Not original to the truck, but a nice upgrade.

Here is another picture of the rear end, but it sounds like its a 14 bolt ff and if it is what are the estimated hp and torque limits of it?

Even a Big Block 496 at around 700 horses?
