Anyone cut 8 inches off the end of the bed without the 12 in the middle?

Hello,

I was just looking to see if anyone had a pic of a medium* bed with no cuts in the middle to the frame and after the cab; just hacking off some from the end. I imagine it might look silly but I'm curious. Or if someone could photoshop a long bed fleet side. I have a 71 LWB. Thanks.

I was hoping to maintain the smoother ride of the long bed with "sporting" it up a little. Haha

Best thing to do is get used to the sexy good looks of a longbed . I've seen trucks "bobbed" when wrecker hoist was installed. That looks cool...and done for a purpose. GM designed obviously put a lot if thought into the styling and proportions of the arguably best looking trucks ever made.

That's no joke. Who's truck is that? Any Idea what size those wheels are?

It looks like a shortbed with the rear wheels moved back a foot.
HORRIBLE!

Keep hacking up those longbeds, guys... it's really helping the resale value of mine as the numbers dwindle!

whatever you do, don't do it... to each his own, but haven't seen a shortening (except for those that went from a factory lwb to the dimension of a factory swb) that didn't look hokey. Personal opinion only.

To each their own, but unless its done right, IMHO, it looks like garbage. I have seen quite a few members builds that have done it right, lots of work, but totally worth it.

Ive never seen one done right that looks good no matter how much attention to detail has been put in .... maybe you misunderstood the question

OH wait ... this is all IMO =)

Re: Anyone cut 8 inches off the end of the bed without the 12 in the middle?

haha thanks for the pic! Glad to see some opinions on the matter. I agree with most of you that long beds are cool in their own right, just trying to figure out the direction of my build. I always think its cool to see one of these trucks that is different from the rest. I've read a ton of builds and write ups about cutting one down to a factory short bed and I think they look great when all the work is put into them. I am just a little apprehensive about cutting my pickup in half :waah:

That's a lot of work to end up with something that looks like that.

If you bob 8.14" off of a long bed it has the same overhang as a shortbed or Blazer. Did a few photochops before to see what it would look like. Still feel that if someone is determined to do a full cut down they might should start with a bob and see how it goes for them. Be great for a C20 hauling a heavy pull trailer or a fifth wheeler.

I think that looks really slick. The trim probably helps. Maybe I'm the only one...

There's a world of difference between the black truck and the turquoise one. The turquoise one looks like it's about to come off its rear axle.

On the other hand, I guess it would preserve the ride quality, maybe even improve it somewhat.

Re: Anyone cut 8 inches off the end of the bed without the 12 in the middle?

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I did not run into it when I was searching, prior to starting this thread. As for the turquoise truck I'd like to see a side pic of it because from the posted one it looks like they hacked 4 feet off the end! I'm thinking a more subtle 4-6 inch chop off the back might be the way to go, but then you can't use the stock short bed trim. Something to consider.... Thanks for the help!

Re: Anyone cut 8 inches off the end of the bed without the 12 in the middle?

No problem I knew it was out there.
That turquoise truck looks to me to have been shortened about 20 inches.
It would allow much more weight to be put on the rear of the truck without lifting the nose. No doubt it was abused well beyond reason! Without a vocational need I cannot see cutting one down that far.
