SEM interior paint.
 

Which type of the SEM interior paint line has anyone used. It looks like they have four different types. Classic coat, Color Coat, Sure-Coat, and Vinyl Coat. Three of the four will work on both vinyl and plastic and the one will work on vinyl. I don't know if they have different sheens or what the difference is. I will probably try to call Monday but thought I would see what some of you had to say first.

As of right now I think I will just have to paint all the plastic trim in the cab and maybe the metal headliner trim strips. Not sure about door panels yet. I am going to try to find a blazer with the lighter gray panels first before painting a set.

I painted my dash and my trim including the metal strips with SEM colorbond. They turned out pretty good.

I used the sem color coat on my interior bits. Presidio was the closest I could find to match the dark gray, I'll snap pics of the painted parts against the originals, it's really close. Just make sure you clean really well and use an adhesion promoter, I did this way in my 86 Camaro and it's holding up great.

I would be interested to see how close of a match they were. Might be hard to tell the true difference on camera though. I was thinking about cleaning them with some cleaner and a stiff brush, then scuff with a scotchbrite pad, adhesion promoter then paint.

No scotchbrite, that would mess with the texture of the panels. The sem stuff lays down really nice. Clean/promoter/paint is all I have ever done and it holds up great. Make sure that every step is fully dry before the next and do a dust coat on the first coat of paint, I have found that some fish eye can happen if you lay down a heavy first coat.

Okay, I was just going by what SEM says. They say to use a scuff pad.

I agree. I am a fan of SEM paint & have had very good luck with it.

What about the sheen between the four different types? Are they all the same? Just don't want to buy four or more of everything.

Can't help you there, Ive only used color coat.

What colour and what parts are you painting? What colour are you trying to match?

I am waiting on the parts I am buying from a member here. They are not here yet but it is the gray from a 90 suburban. I am going to try to match it or I will just repaint all of it. I have to paint all the plastic trim that is inside the cab. Not sure on door panels yet. I have to see if I can find a set the same color before painting another set I have. What plastic that I don't get from this purchase I will pull from my stash. I will either be going over blue or burgandy plastic and possibly door panels as well. I have not seen the trim in person yet but it is either the light or medium gray.

It's the dark gray, same as mine. I was going to grab the interior that your getting, just can't find the time to get down there. The persidio is really close, the original colour has a little more blue to it. It will pass fine as long as the panels that meet are all painted. I'll put a A pillar in my truck tomorrow and snap a pic of it against the dash pad. With your other coloured panels, you might want to paint everything white or black before so they match perfectly, I didn't and the white C pillars are a little lighter than the top trim which was gray to begin with. I'm limo tinting all the windows so the colour difference isn't going to be as noticeable in my crew cab.

When I do it again and I will, I'm going to paint everything black first, than paint gray so there isn't that slight shade difference.

Thanks. I will also have tint on these windows too so hopefully you won't even be able to tell what was painted and what wasn't.

Here's the A pillar colour vs the dash colour. It's only a shad or two off and the sheen is about the same as original.

Yes sir, presidio #15163 Color Coat. When you see it in person it's a little off but tints will hide that. Just remember to paint all the plastic white/black if your using odd colours to get everything to match.
