Susp: heavy half to regular half, should I convert it?
So my stepside has the heavy half susp on it and I was thinking of converting it to regular half ton. It has the long 3/4 leafs in back and the heavy one tons up front. I was going to do a 3-4 drop on it and figured I may as well get rid of the stiff susp and make it a better ride. By getting some 1/2 ton long bed springs and doing four per side and cut half ton coils up front. In the meantime adding a swaybar and doing the castor mod.
Being a heavy half stepside would that be desirable to keep on the truck as far as value or will people value the ride quality more? :gmc2: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...9AFEEDF177.jpg |

How many leaf springs in the rear spring pack?

If youre going to lower it then I would change out to the c10 suspension and make the truck ride better

I don't see the "Heavy Half" thing being a desired option.
I'm not sure what GM even offered as a change to the regular 1/2-ton trucks. I thought it was just a marketing thing back in the day. I would keep the 56" rear springs. Do a flip kit and a 4/6 drop. I was never a fan of the shackle/hanger 4" drop. |

Yah really for the engine and emmissions Benifit. Although the original 454 was lost for it long ago. I know for fact it was a heavy half but it's kinda moot on a stepside haha

Re: Susp: heavy half to regular half, should I convert it?
i have managed to get about half a ton in my short bed step side c10. thats really trying. 5 leafs handle that just fine. i have 3 now and it did just yesterday with like 800. really its a half ton so you dont need to put 2000 lbs of gravel in it. i would keep the coils and drop the leaf pack to 4 or 5. i know my crew cab just hops the rear over speed bumps. i dont think that is what people look for haha
