Debate is over. Pex is better than copper

At least for using on striker plates! I bought a new striker at autozone and installed it on the driver side of my 87 GMC and then I sleeved pex pipe on the passenger side. Both doors now shut easily, but the passenger side was pretty much free. It was suggested on another thread so I thought I would try.

I just used a piece of pvc I found in a junk pile.

is it this stuff? i am guessing the 3/4" is OD. if so. $6 for 10 feet is cheap. and you could giv some to your buddies and keep spares in the truck http://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBite...2?N=5yc1vZbuty

Correct. 1/2 inch. The 3/4 works but is too big and can catch/pinch weird. I tried that first and then went back and got the 1/2 and it works better without pinching. Also, Menards had it cheaper than Home Depot. I got a 3' section for under 3 bucks, plus I slid it into their bag sale for an extra 14% off.

Granted I've only had it on a few weeks, but there is no wear at all that I can see. The bushing rolls as it slides into the lock mechanism, so I'm guessing wear will be minimal. People have been doing this for years. Plus, I've still got 2'9" left after doing two trucks... I'm guessing I will run out of years before I run out of PEX tubing.

does the washer come off? i tried on my Ford(pretty much the same style stiker) and the washer was staked on....

Re: Debate is over. Pex is better than copper

Try putting the washer in a vise while you spin the striker and it should unthread.

The last washers on mine were easy enough to spin off by hand.

I sleeved my original strikers about 2-3 years and still going strong. And if they did wear out, the minimum length of pex pipe is like 8 feet.. so the 5 bucks for the stick of pex will last the life of the truck and its siblings...

3 feet sections available at Menards and 3 bucks. Still, no way I'll ever use it all.

Grey pex is Quest. You won't find that in stores any more. It's been discontinued for years. Stuff was a problem child, but pex is cheap and everywhere now. I get scraps off jobs for different things. Now I need to use it for my strikers.....

It lasts a lot longer than the electrical tape I used to wrap around the strikers.

Alex.
