stock filler location
I have noticed that people are torn between the best place for the fuel tank. I will be keeping my in cab tank. has anyone done a flush mounted or pop up cap in the stock location?

I have seen several stake pocket filler caps I'm sure the same concept could be applied if you shorten the filler neck on the gas tank.

I think the main difference is going to be the contour on the cab side versus the flat stake pocket. I'm just curious to see what the guys have done with theirs.

Just remember a fixed filler to the cab will need to be attached to the tank with a hose/joint of some sort. The factory set up uses a filler independent of the cab. The later fillers were even made flexable as a safety feature. On my IH pickup the filler tube passes from the cap through pillar and floor down to the under cab/bed tank as a single section to a hose coupling.

Sounds like you are missing the intent of my post.
I do not have a flush cab mount filler. What I was trying to point out is that GM mounted the filler directly to the tank inside the passenger compartment. Also the need for and undesireability of an inside cab connection to the tank. If you must, consider a filler check ball like most late model tanks have at the tank to prevent back flow. The last year I remember a "connection" inside a vehicle was the 68 down Camaro. Both the Suburban and Blazer had fill tubes running through the passenger compartment but again were solid from cap to exit of the compartment as is my IH pickup. |
