Side Terminal Battery Cable Source

Where can I find good quality side terminal battery cables for my '71 with a 350? My aftermarket replacements aren't working out well. Original looking would be nice, but not a requirement.

Recently, I've been building my own with stuff from here....

They sell nice terminal ends already loaded with solder. You just strip the cable insulation and heat the terminal end with a little propane hand torch and cram the cable into the terminal. Works fantastic and the overall price is very comparable to the generic parts store packaged ones.

Is there any benefit with the side post?

I really like the cables you made for Hillbilly Deluxe, but I haven't located quality side terminal cable ends to go this route.

I want battery interchangeability with everything else I own. Plus I've had less issues with corrosion.

I have four 67-72's, I installed side terminals on them all, now I just swap a battery in to the one I want to drive or work on ! Keeps battery cost down and much easier to make the connections. Also less corrosion to deal with.

On my stepside, I run the top terminal type of ends on a side terminal battery using a pair of these...

After further research I've decided to try these, and ordered them from Amazon:
  • 45" long battery cable (positive): ACDelco 4SD45X
  • 35" long battery cable (I'm running headers with no air conditioning so my ground location is farther away from the battery than original): ACDelco 4SD35X

Note: If you have the original ground location with exhaust manifolds the 25" long ACDelco 4SD25X should be right.

These cables do have a nice side terminal end, but are generic black.

Hi richards72chevy, side posts get the terminal away from the outgassing of the battery . Also, hard to lay a wrench accross a side post and short circuit it. Also if using an ac delco battery they vent out the sides away from the terminals instead of out the top where the terminals are at on top post batteries. A side note; ac delco batteries have a proprietary chemical make-up that outgasses 50 percent less than any other manufacturer. These specs are probably 15 years old but i feel they still apply. I go to the salvage yards and get longer battery cables from Gm vehicles, cut the eyelet off at the starter or ground end, shorten as needed and solder on a new eyelet. The replacement cables now days for the most part are very poor quality. The factory cables got the vehicle all the way to the junkyard, so there are ok with me.

There are exactly what I ordered and installed. Work perfect

I was at Wal-Mart tonight and saw they have the Everstart LFST45-4WM and LFST35-4WM for half of what I paid for the ACDelcos. I wasn't overly impressed, and hadn't considered this previously because the junk that is currently on the truck came from here twelve years ago. I'll report back on how the ACDelco quality compares.
