Pickup Bedside ToolBox in a Suburban?
 

I noticed that 70s Chevy pickups had an optional bedside toolbox, with a locking door, that I find appealing. These were located in the lower panels of the bed and appear to run along the underside of the trucks. Has anyone ever attempted to incoporate one of these into their suburban? If not, do people suppose there would be room, or would there likely be some intrusion into the Sub's interior? As I look at them, I think they might slide in under the bed.

I suppose I just am not satisfied with the 180 cu feet of storage in the Burb!! :lol:

I don't know if you could or not but it sounds like an interesting concept....

I have a Burb and a complete tool box....Hummm??

I don't have a box. There is a listing on Ebay for one, including trim, for $200.

It looks to me like there would be plenty of room where the "fourth" door should be !!!

The floor would have to be raised ( kids ONLY on that side ) but it sure would be a conversation piece !!!

The problem is the floor drops down behind the second seat. If you put a tool & stowage compartment on the driver side the floor would have to be cut out and it steal away that foot space. The bigger problem is finding a door that isn't rotted that the guys with pickups who need these won't let you wrestle away from them (if there are any)

Have to agree with Tim. If the cargo floor were level in front of the wheels like a panel truck or a G-van then I could see doing it. But as it stands there isn't much room and the box volume would be reduced quite a bit. Plus there is the whole floor flange and inner floor pan drop off (torque box) to contend with.
