Dynacorn hood 1947 - 1954?????

Gents,

Anyone out there have any experience with the new dynacorn ONE piece hood? I need a hood....and can't find an original in decent shape in the San Francisco area so, I'm looking at the Dynacorn hood option.

Thnx,

Tom

How any hood fits depends on your truck and how the fenders are adjusted. I doubt very much that it will bolt on and close with out a lot of adjustment. with that said I prefer Dynacorn parts over the other brands, they do seem to fit better out of the box

Dave,

I have to seriously adjust fenders and everything else on the front end do to an accident I had running into the rear of the car in front of me. Everything was replaced with used sheetmetal. The sandblaster warped the crap out of the hood and that's why I'm looking for another.

Thanks for your reply.

I rebuilt an entire cab from Dynacorn parts , roof, cowls upper and lower , back panel and window area and they did fit remarkable well so I wouldn't be afraid to use their hood.

It's such a shame to see another piece of vintage sheetmetal destroyed by the lack of skills and understandings of sandblasting. :(

Here's the e-mail address of a guy in Grass Valley who has several acres of old trucks (mostly Chevy's)
jaytoon1@aol.com
He is a really nice guy to work with and stands behind everything he sells.

Thanks for posting that email, I lost mine. I bought my frame from him, he's a good guy.

The stock hoods quite often don't fit well without a lot of serious adjustment. Added to that the adjustments start with getting the cab correctly mounted on the frame with good cab mounts and the correct amount of distance between the cab floor and the frame. If that isn't perfect or close to perfect the hood will never fit as well as it could or should.

I fought that problem first hand when I had the 350 and automatic in my truck and had hacked out the crossmember under the bellhousing and the cab weight pushed the mount brackets off the frame down until the cab was sitting on the frame rather than being held up by the mounts.

Reproduction parts are avoided by me, I will do ANYTHING before I use one. They are limited to plastic and rubber pieces.

Well gents, I appreciate your info. I did locate a 54 hood that is supposedly in good shape. Will a 54 hood fit a 49? I was told it would but the guy that has the hood is asking me, "Are yooouuuuu suuuure?" Makes me second guess it.

All you guys with spare hoods(47-54 Chev)...anyone want to get rid of the latch, latch panel and braces that go across the front of the hood? I need the hood parts, not the panel that goes in front of the radiator on the body.
My local yards want to sell complete hoods, and I don't need the whole hood.

Go back to Blue49's post with the email for the guy in GrassValley "Jaytoon1@aol.com" and send him a note, he very likely has a crappy hood he will remove those and mail them to you for a fair price.

Yes a 54 hood will fit the late 47/53 trucks fine but the hood ornament is different.

54 hood on my 48.

I think that hood actually fit better than the louvered hood does. I sold it to a guy here in town for his truck that he has been working on for as long as I have been working on my truck a few months ago.

Old Crow, let me look, I'm not sure I have an extra that I won't be using on a hood though and the big truck latches are different as far as I can tell. It would be a trade plus shipping and not a sale if I have one.
