steering column wiring question.
Hi guys, I do apologize if this question has already been asked and addressed but I am at the end of a suspension swap on my 62 and have used a 69 column and have looked for info with no luck on wiring the 69 into a 62 . thanks

Re: steering column wiring question.
The wiring colors changed I believe in 1965. So you will have to get a wiring diagram from a 1969 and one from a 1962 and match them up wire by wire. Here is a thread for the full body wiring of a 60-66.

Re: steering column wiring question.
Yes you are correct I have been looking online for this info and so far have only found one for a 57 and a 71 and it dose not seem to jive but still looking thanks.

Re: steering column wiring question.
I assume you are talking about colors or which colors to connect to what?
I am in the process of rewiring my 1964 and most of the wire colors match up with exception of the two shades of blue. My kit was universal but meant for use with a GM column, so I would assume that they should be close. I can tell you what colors came in my harness that should match the later model column and what they matched to in my 1964 if that would help....I can get it tonight if you need, just let me know. I am not sure if the harnesses are the same for 64 v. 62, but if you have any interest in the harnesses and some new female spade terminals to fit inside the harnesses, let me know. I ended up using a terminal block to make all my steering column connections. So, mine are available. My wiring is still out for the most part if you need a picture to help or anything. |
Re: steering column wiring question.
Trump, I believe J persigner66c10 is correct I read that the wiring changed in 65 so a 64 should be the same I found one for the late 50's and the colors seem to be the same but still scrounging through and trying to find one for the 69 and also would like to see you 64 diagram to confirm what I am working with is the same as I am not sure. Thanks.

Ok, I will try to get back to you tonight after I get home from work to take some pics and do some checking if nobody else gets to it first.

Re: steering column wiring question.
Ok I am going to try and give this a shot without getting it jumbled. Here's my theory. I am using a later model aftermarket harness that is supposed to match the later model wire colors with an early style (1964) chevy steering column and ignition switch. I am making a chart that references the "harness" which should have wire colors that match the later model column, unless something is missed.
Turn signals and horn: Column (1964) / Harness (later style wire colors) Green/White / Light Green Black/White / White Black/Yellow / Yellow Purple / Purple Black / Black Black/Blue / Light Blue Blue/White / Dark Blue N/A / Brown (hazards) IGN Switch (1964) / Wiring Harness (later style) Brown / Brown (acc) Purple / Purple (starter) Red / Red x2 (Batt) Pink / Pink (coil) Pink / Orange (ignition) (Spliced w/ orange) Dark Green (thermo sender) / N/A Sorry about the font colors. I tried to set it up like a table, but the format wouldn't let me. So the font colors separate. Hopefully this is what you are looking for. If you or anybody else finds any issues, please correct them. I used a terminal strip to replace the half-moon connectors. I have the half moon connects and new female spade terminals to use with them available if needed. The back of my ign switch is labeled so that should be pretty easy for hook-up. Pictures below. Let me know if you need anything else. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...psf502a7ff.jpg http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ps78cad745.jpg half moon connectors (male and female) http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ps6d3e9ebd.jpg |
Re: steering column wiring question.
PS- I used the diagrams at the link below to do my matching.
