u joint conversion question
Hey guys here is my question
I have a 72 c10 with a TH400 transmission. I also have a 5 lug rear end . The u joints are not the same when i try to connect the driveshaft to the rear end. The rear end is much smaller. Do they sell a u joint with 2 small ends for the rear end , and 2 bigger ends for the th400 driveshaft ? |
Re: u joint conversion question
Yes they do... I did the exact thing to my 72 gmc I had. I went to a one piece driveshaft at the time as well.... From the donor truck I took the tranny from.

Re: u joint conversion question
It's a common question so I took a picture of the last one I installed to show the part number you need.

Looks like my local parts store has it, going to go check it out during my lunch break |
Re: u joint conversion question
Yikes, I wouldn't put a precision joint in my neighbors lawnmower.
What size joints are you using? 1350, 1330, 1310, 3r? Spicer and neapco both make decent ujoints built within some tolerances. The precision 372 is for 3r-1310 so if the "big" caps have inside keepers (notice the flat areas on the inside of the trans yoke posted) and the "small" cap side is also significantly more narrow it might be the ujoint that you need. |
