Hood adjustment???

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished installing a replacement fender (O.E) on the driver side of my 80 C10. The fender is properly aligned with the door, and I got the hood all lined up with the front of the fenders. The problem I am having is that it sits up too high in the rear on the drivers side only. After I close the hood, I can push down on it, and it gets a little better, but still sits too high. The passenger side is fine.

I did a little looking online, and read that this is due to the adjustment angle of the hood hinges, so I tried to play with that a bit, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I even removed all of the rubber bumpers on the fender, but that also made no change.

You can see the issue in this photo.

Anyone know how to get this to sit correctly?

I realize that it sounds crazy, but what you really need to do is raise the hinge on that side.

It's because the hinges "lift" as they open, so if they don't close completely, some of that lift is still there. Try loosening the lower and rear bolts, allow the hinge to pivot upward and tighten it up. This should get it to close, but you may have to adjust it front to back afterward to get it realigned with the fender.

Thanks Longhair - I will try that tonight. I was doing exactly the opposite, and rolling the hinge all the way back.

I tried this suggestion tonight when I got home. Unfortunately it mad the problem much worse. The hood sat high by over an inch when I rotated the hing forward instead of back. Any other ideas?

And this is what it looked like when I tried that...

Can you post a picture of the mounts on the inside of the fender?

Re: Hood adjustment???

I can when I get home tonight, but it's just a stock hood/fender/hinge. Hood bolts to hinge with 2 bolts, and hinge bolts to fender with three bolts. Hinge bolt towards the from of the truck is the pivot bolt, and the middle and rear bolts are in slotted holes to allow for this adjustment. When I have the rear of the hinge rotated down as far as it will go - it looks like the first picture in this thread. When I have the rear rotated up as far as it will go, it looks like the last picture in the thread.

I was just looking at some photos of the truck with the original fender in place, and it looks like I may have had this problem even before the fender swap.

Just looked at my pictures to see if mine had the same problem and I don't... weird.
