1984 gmc
1 Attachment(s)
I have a chance to bid on this 1984 GMC long box that has only 65000 original miles. It has a 305 with a 3 speed auto trans ( what year did the 4 speed autos come out ) and 2:73 gears. It also has A/C, C/C and tilt. If my memory serves me right 305's of that era had cam problems with the lobes going round, does anyone agree? I would like to keep this truck long term so if anyone has any suggestions to potential problems please let me know. Is there anything else I should check into on the truck? Any opinions on value would be appreciated. Attached is the only pic I have.

I've got an 84 K10 with its original 305. 104,000 miles, runs great.

Re: 1984 gmc
Hey Greg! Nice truck!
When I worked in the machine shop, we never saw 305's come in for flat cams. The bottom ends were fairly stout. It's the heads that will give you grief. They are very thin wall casting heads and crack easily. We use to sell a LOT of World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads to customers with those engines. |

That's a nice truck! Hard to find a low mileage one that nice up here anymore.I'm pretty sure the 700R came out in 81.

Re: 1984 gmc
305's run forever. A lot of people would balk at the 2.73's but if you have to do some work off road, that's what low range is for. I think that truck would easily be $2-3k around here.
