12 bolt rear diff?
I have a 68 c-10 stepside that originally had a 250 straight 6. I am going to be installing a 350 out of a 89 g30 and a t400 trans out of a 90 chevy truck. I counted the bolts on the cover and it has 12. Will my original rear diff be able to handle the v8 or am I better off trying to find a different diff assembly. Or can I upgrade the internals of the diff. I plan to just have a few performance bolt ons and that's about it.

Re: 12 bolt rear diff?
Yea the 12 bolt truck rear is plenty strong for most any street bound small block. Until your drag racing and making serious power the 12 bolt is just fine. The 12 bolt was used behind everything from the inline 6 up to big blocks.

Re: 12 bolt rear diff?
:agree:
The stock 12 bolt in mine has seen a lot of abuse for 20+ years. Only just broke the stock ring gear 3 weeks ago doing stupid stuff, but I rebuilt it, droped in a new limited slip, gears, and bearing caps and she should be good for a long time, but my 355 is a little radical though so it should be plenty strong for what you are doing. |
