New HW 69 Step

Here's a new one that is out. I found it at Target in a 9-pack (not my photo):

Cool!...except for the yellow rims on the wheels. What's up with that? I guess it's another wheel swap candidate

Thanks for the heads-up Doug. I found one at the local Target; today. The pickup wasn't in the exclusive slot; so it'll probably start showing up as a single in a few weeks. I thought for sure HWs would have a recolor of the red '67 by now. :<(

It's only been out a few months now. Give 'em time. There will surely be plenty of variations in the future. I'm wanting more for that one too. I like it better than the '69 stepside casting.

I figured it would be a single soon, but I didn't want to wait. I pulled the new '69 out of the package, replaced it with an extra red '67 I had, and gave the pack to the four year old boy across the street.

Re: New HW 69 Step

I was wondering if the coming of the '67 meant the '69 would be retired. There have sure been a heap of versions released. I'm glad that didn't happen,I really like the Stepside.

I have some '67s I wanted to paint over the winter...didn't happen. My thing is putting factory color on them. Might do a custom color or two this time around. I'd like to learn how they do graphics on these tiny things. One hang up is I also want to make some display cases for loose HW. The only one I have is stuffed to the max. around a half dozen promos. More like storage than display. No point in doing a custom to have to keep it stashed or set out collecting dust. This old log cabin and woodstove sure makes it hard to stay up with the dust. I did learn how they remove them from the blister pack and seal back up to look like they were never opened.

It's kind of like a rubber stamp... http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Tampo

Looks like you're correct since it's shown up on this page: http://www.hotwheelscollectors.com/showroom/sneak/

That was interesting. I guess what I was wondering is how guys do one-off custom graphics. I have a Neat Streeter (36 Ford Coupe) someone did a knockout black with flames paint job on. How the heck do they do that so small? I'm pretty sure it's painted. I know guys will make decals by scanning, shrinking, printing onto decal sheet, then clearing over. But to paint so small makes me think of those Japanese who carve artwork on a grain of rice!

Or the 7 yr old labor who is applying the decals, Tiny tiny steady fingers.

Are these HW Workshop? The green sided card? I deleted my HWC e-mail and link above isn't showing it now. That's what I've been looking for. I did get the "Herby" VW Beetle (Love Bug). I finally figured out that's the best way to look through those annoying racks (where you can't help but knock them off the pegs trying to see each and every one.

I've seen the same car show up with different side banners, so I wouldn't use that as a guarantee. I try to either look down the bottom of the cards so I can see the name of the car or just run my hand down the left side of the row so I can see the illustration on the card.

Tim; the two that I found are on the green stripe cards.

Re: New HW 69 Step

I guess it is possible they could be also in another series, but I use the color or I'd just assume buy from a secondary seller. I do the look up/look through from the end, too, but can't always see all that well. I guess as long as they put illustrations of the actual vehicle on the card,as they have done lately, that will work, too. One day I'll run across a couple/few I hope. I have a nice set of real riders ready to go one. I think it will be a sharp truck w/o the wheels it comes with. It's ok as is,just much better with something that looks like something you'd see on a real truck. I remember the late-70s Dodge Power Wagon had a package with black spoke wheels and a yellow pinstripe around the edge. Other than that, maybe a road racing sedan would have look like that. I stole the chassis/real riders from the Haulin Asphalt truck to put under the City Works truck and put that chassis/wheels under the Haulin Asphalt and the yellow rim actually looks pretty good with the yellow accent on the truck.

Re: New HW 69 Step

It's been out a month and have yet to see one in the stores. Yet,here's a guy who had 5 and asking stupid money.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Hot-Whe...item2ed0f46496

I see a single for $.99,but by the time you pay shipping it will be $5 or so. It's just common '14 edition. I don't need it that bad. Don't really want to waste a whole lot of time searching, either. I'd just like to spend a couple bucks to have one to keep in the package and another to improve with better wheels. Remember when Hot Wheels were easy and cheap? That's what they've always been about...when new. I'm griping like a spoiled kid,I know, but if it gets much harder to casually collect these things I'll just hang it up. This is coming from a guy who has paid as much as $25 for limited editions/promos/customs. I never did see a '67 on the racks.

I finally found 3 of the new ones on our friday venture to Walmart but they were not on the pegs ,they had 2 of those big boxes in the far back aisle .They were also on sale for .88 cents each ,I will send you one if you dont find any.

Re: New HW 69 Step

That's a generous offer,John. I'm sure I'll find some soon, though. I was just reacting to seeing someone with 5 listed as a lot. I saw the single one for a buck and considered it,just for convenience. Then I thought it would be great to see someone had a couple few to justify the cost of shipping. Then I find the 5...for 30 bucks! I've just had needs from both Target and Walmart lately and still striking out. Just had to get packing tape at Walmart this evening...no trucks. My Walmart in town isn't the Super Walmart and they never have those boxes. I've done well with those before.
