305 v6 questions

Does anyone know if the carb and water pump on a 305 v6 are engine specific or if other engines ran those same parts. The carb is a 2 barrel and I'm trying to find a rebuild kit for it and the water pumps broke. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll need the numbers off your carb. to get a kit for it. I don't know what kind of carbs. they ran on those things, but I would think most any 2 barrell would bolt on to your intake if you can't find a kit. I would think the water pump would be GMC 305 V-6 eng. speciffic, but I could be wrong. You'll just have to have a parts guy look it up. You could punch it in to O'Reily's or RockAuto.

I got the water pump for my brother's 305e from rock auto. It was a perfect match. Be careful when going to your local auto parts. I work for Advance Auto and our computer often confuses the 305 V6 with a sbc. Don't be afraid to get parts from your flaps but you might want to go in and ask if anyone has experience with old GM products.

The water pumps are still available no problem. The larger V-6's used a water pump with a threaded shaft, just be sure you get the one with the flange for the pulley. The original carburetor should be a Stromberg WW. Those are pretty rare, but a Rochester 2 bbl. off a older small block Chevy would probably work O.K..
