Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
Hey guys,
Recently picked up a 2 Door 2wd Tahoe after trying to find one for a few years up here in Washington. Anyways I want to bring it down to mother earth! It came with 20s already and I plan on getting smaller tires for them but I would like to do a 4/6 on it. Ive been trying to find info on parts and im confused on what to use. Do I use spindles and springs for the 2wd 88-98 c1500s? What about the flip kit in the rear? I was looking at it today and even with a notch I dont see how doing a flip will net me close to a 6" drop. Are there certain part numbers I should be looking at for the rear? When it comes to the 73-87 trucks I have it figured out. But this, this is confusing me! Thanks! http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps36cfa4b7.jpg |

Congrats on the purchase. By far, one of my favorite body styles and hope to own one myself someday.
The spindles and springs for the trucks will work with the Tahoes, since they use the same front suspension. In the rear, a flip kit would be about a 5.5" drop. You can also do a hanger and shackle kit, if you do quite want it that low. I would suggest the spindles, springs and flip kit, and smaller tires as you have planned. - Travis |

Thanks Travis! I sold the 78 i was emailing you about and saw this thing the next day and couldn't say no! Which flip kit would I need to purchase? I havent found anything for the 2 door model, I've only seen the 4 door flip. Since they share the same suspension I might pick up the Michigan Metal Works control arms and run a Schrader valve. I like the idea of the wheels being centered up front.

Hard to pass ups clean 2dr. 2wd Tahoe!
BellTech makes a flip for the truck, and they have nice quality components. And of course for the front, you can do their springs and spindles. We are a dealer for BellTech, so let me know if you want me to shoot you over some pricing. http://www.belltech.com/products/bel...ip-kit-23.html - Travis |

Flip kits are really low on 2wd 2dr tahoes.
Research here: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/g...oe-advice.html And over at www.gmfullsize.com. Lots and lots of info before you buy parts. Then hook up with member S10Fan,... he's doing this also. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=619862 |
Re: Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
Thanks for the info Keith,
I have kind of a crazy question.. I know some of the 73-87 guys have adapted 88-98 lift spindles on their 2wds. Im wondering if it would be possible to go the other way? Lets say a 73-87 drop spindle on an 88-98?? The reason is, I was looking for brake upgrade options and its very very limited. Where as if I had 73-87 spindles I could have a lot more options open up.. I don't know just an idea the hunt continues! |
Re: Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
Stick with the 88-98 spindle on your truck.
There are camber issues swapping 63-87 parts with 88-98 parts. I'm sure Baer and Wilwood has something for your tahoe,... |

Hey muthstryker. I'm in the same boat as u. Just got my 2 door last week. Did some research through forums. Found out that belltech spindles push your wheels out 1/2 inch. I need all the space I can get with 22. 13 offset. So I called djm suspension. Real cool guys to talk to. Had them put a 4/4 drop kit together without leaf lift hangers making it 4/5.5 drop. Dude took off 120 off price. So stoked to get this kit on.
Just sharing some good experience with djm. But I heard belltech has great components too. Just personal choice I guess. Anyway good luck. I'll post pics after the drop. PS. If you do call djm. Ask for Jeff |

Baer has a 14" brake for the front, Are the 10 bolt rears on the trucks pretty similar throughout the years?

Plasti dipped the wheels centers and left the lips chrome, also removed the side steps.

That looks really good! what size tires you running? I called les schwab and they quoted me $1500 for kit, install, and alignment. I'm going to eventually have some billets made so the wheels getting pushed out wont be an issue. I just need to figure out what tire size to use on my wheels now until I can buy new ones. Yours sits perfect! Let me know!

Re: Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
I swapped out the 22 for 20. 22 were too much wheel. I'm running a 255/35 r20. I haven't install the c-notch. I'm scared to. I'll be taking it to experienced shop. I did cut the front spring one inch. So it's technically a 5/7 drop. I love the way it sits. It doesn't hit too bad without the c-notch but still going to have it done.

Re: Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
It looks good, I thought about going with leaf springs and shackles to get down to a 6" drop for a more sportier feel. I'll be using a slightly larger tire than you, I plan on going with a 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 rear.
I agree on the 22" wheel statement, I've been looking at so many pictures of these things and 22s just don't look right. I do like the 20/22 staggers I've seen though. But as for looking the best 20s all around hands down. Do you have any pictures of your flip. Did you remove the factory bump stop mount? |
Re: Need Help/Info On Lowering 97 2DR 2WD Tahoe
I did remove it. The axle is a few inches from the frame.
