Someone has done a reverse swap-a-roo on your truck. They must have wanted disc brakes on what that had and put the drum on what they were gonna sell. The trucks made for the model year 71- and 72 all had disc brakes, there is some talk of some 70 models but that area is fuzzy to me and I'll let others delve into that. If indeed you do have the drum brakes it may work well for you to do the 67-70 conversion and like you said it may be the cheapest route.

You're likely looking at disc brake and DROP SPINDLE conversions (lowers truck 2-2.5" in front depending on which you get). As stated above, every 1971/72 truck that rolled off the assembly line had disc brakes. Your frame or cab may have been swapped at some point. There is a VIN on the DS of the frame, see if it matches your cab.

Anyway, yes, if you're looking at DROP disc brake spindles there is a difference. 67-70's used different lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends than 71/72 trucks, so that's why the drop spindles are different. HOWEVER, the lower control arms are the same, so you can install 67-70 ball joints in 71/72 control arms and vice versa.

The vin number on the frame dosent math the vin on the truck. I would post pic, but i only have pics on my phone and not on my computer. So i dont know how to load them.

Acording to the frame number, the frame is a 69 and i got a 72 cab. Am i asking for trouble bulding this truck since the numbers dont match?

Not really. Just keep asking questions. The people here have a lot of experience and will be able to steer you into a nice truck. If the numbers don't match, just make sure some of the parts aren't stolen before you get into it too deep.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. AS LONG AS you have a title that matches the cab VIN.

At least you know what parts you need to get now :)

If it is registered to you now I wouldn't worry about it. If you sell it to someone out of your state where a vin inspection is required it might be an issue if they look at the frame.

Yup. Cab swaps and frame swaps are common now for these trucks. Now you know you got 69 steering and suspension and can go from there
