NP205 shifter nylon bushings
 

Where can I get the two transfer case bushings for the 71 NP205?? I thought I bought these from GM years ago, but discontinued now. Any ideas?? I could use the bolt that holds the shifter also.

On my 71 transfer case shifter there are no bushings. The ID of the shifter is .730 and the OD of the bolt is .720, so there might be some wear. Anyway there is not enough room to put bushings in this setup. The threads on the large shifter bolt are 9/16"

I have another transfer case that has a smaller diameter shifter bolt on it with 1/2" threads. This one had bushings in the shift
lever. After knocking the bushings out, the lever hole measures .730.

I believe that they came out with an upgrade on the shifter bolt so if you have the smaller diameter bolt you could posssibly retap your adapter and install the larger bolt and eliminate the bushings. The larger bolt has a nice grease groove in it.

Not sure if this applys to your situation, but I thought that I would at least throw it out as something to consider.

Very Very hard to find. I had to buy them with the shifter and linkage from Frank's Pick M UP. He may have more PICKMUP is his handle. You may try WES also or just put a message on the Parts board someone will get you what you need.

Can you described installed location and shape of bushings? Are there such thing as decent used ones?

Thanks for the info, guy's. I was thinking of posting a WTB on the parts board too. If I can't find some bushings, I will look into the larger bolt.

If you can give me bushing dimensions, (OD, ID, and length), I may be able to come up with some from an industrial supplier.

There's part of one left in the shifter...I'll try to get it out over the weekend, and measure it!!

I took the bushing out of one of my shifters to measure it. The bushing is made out of cold rolled steel, so I am not sure if it is an original one. It works very well in the shifter.

Here are the dimensions, (which are very much like the large bolt on the OD):

OD .722

ID .496 (fits the 1/2" bolt shank)

Length 1.480

Grease groove .340 wide x .020 deep, (located .500
from one end, and is not centered)

I have a '71 K5 with a 7/16" bolt, a steel tube (no grease groove) over the bolt, and two flanged plastic bushings. I tried the pictured nylon bushings ($3.06 w/tax) after reading a suggestion by another K5 owner. They are close to the orginals, except slightly thinner wall, longer (but not so much they are a problem), and the bushing flange has a smaller OD. However, I'm still not satisfied with the amount of shifter slop which leads me to believe these shifters were sloppy off the assembly line.

I just want to share my experience and find some additional ideas that others have tried. I'd ideally like to find a shouldered bolt that will work with my 7/16" NP205 adapter.
