Oakland Trucks in '61 ???
I have a 1961 Chevy Apache C10 and the Vin # is:
1c144 (0) 101058 Problem is, the "O" in the vin number right after the "44" doesn't show up in any of the online sites or in the vin# decoders. Being that I'm in California, I can assume it was a California built truck. Does anyone have any good information about trucks being made in Oakland as early as 1961? Did they make trucks in Oakland before that too? I see Oakland for the later model trucks but not 61 and before. Tom |
Re: Oakland Trucks in '61 ???
Yes, the Oakland plant assembled vehicles from around 1916 to calendar year 1963. My 1963 Chevy II Super Sport and my C10 were both assembled at the Oakland plant before it was closed and the rest of the assembly came out of the Fremont plant.

That would be cool if your truck hung around the same area all this time.

Re: Oakland Trucks in '61 ???
Per the GMC VIN decoder found at the following link, my 1960 GMC is also an Oakland build:

Re: Oakland Trucks in '61 ???
Thanks for the help. That Stovebolt link was the only one that showed the Oakland plant. Good info.

Re: Oakland Trucks in '61 ???
It's funny that Oakland is not listed on most sites. 1916-1963 was called Detroit of the west.
