Hello out there. It has been awhile since i have been on this sight and i recently began restoring a 1969 k10. From what I can tell and the research that I have done on the frame and drivetrain are original to the truck. However, the cab I do not think is original well at least the glove box because the VIN was scratched out and from what I could see it contained a C instead of a K in the VIN which got me wondering. Is there any way to find a SPID without having the original build sheet or glove box when you have the VIN? I have heard that when you call GM they will give you a restorers SPID packet but that contains all options available for a given year and is not specific to your VIN. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What no pics? I like pics..without a build sheet you won't know what came on it so just make it yours.

I don't believe the Heritage Center can document any trucks older than 1976.

Unless you can find a build sheet in the vehicle (under the seat, stuck in the seat cushions) you are S.O.L.

Also - there are "C"s and "K"s sprinkled throughout any VIN and they mean various things.

Perhaps you could post the VIN here and we could decode it (you can use placeholders for the last few digits of the sequential portion) or - go to the VIN decoder on the home page and decipher it yourself.

Does the frame VIN match the SPID and the door plate?
Does the door post plate have rosette rivets?

Thank you guys for the responses. I should have been a little more specific in my post the VIN in the SPID was scratched out. I snapped some photos of the VIN and the scratched out SPID that was in the truck. Sorry for the poor quality of the VIN on the Frame but it is stamped and says j850087. I have already decoded the VIN but if you guys know more about it aside from the decoder feel free to weigh in. As far as the rivets go they are not the GM rosette rivets from what I could tell they just are the normal aluminium round rivets aside from the rivets and glove box. When I removed the shift housing cover it was not held in by bolts instead it was self taping screws and the hole looked to be cut out. I just figured I would see if there was a way to get anymore info since there aren't many K10s in the stock form anymore.

Kieth thank you for the heritage center link I went and checked it out but like you suspected it does not go back far enough to be of any value. I did contact the people that maintain the site and they said I was SOL. So I guess that is where the buck stops with that website. In my first post I should have specified the C as being the first character in the VIN meaning when I have a K VIN sorry for the confusion.

Your SPID is from a 1968, 2wd, V-8, 1/2 ton, LWB, Fleetside, 50th Anniversary Special.

Well the SPID is for a 68 C/10 V8 4x2 Fleetside LWB pickup.
The paint and trim codes are for a 50th Anniversary special with cloth trim. Can't nail down a plant but it really does not matter at this point. Sort out the VIN, title and registration issues before you spend any money on this truck.

Yeah like I thought it isn't the original cab. Must have been swapped at some point. The title, vin, frame and registration all match and was registered under that VIN. guess locating the spid is a no go guess I get to make it my own how I see fit.

Is the cab a high hump or low hump - center floor board section. I've never seen a 4x4 with a low hump cab.

I would assume the cab at one time was a low hump for the 2wd but the tranny cover was removed from a 4x4 cab and installed into this cab to make it a high hump. But that is best guess.

Curious, what does the DD designate on the VIN plate just below "148"?

Just a factory designated spot for the customer or dealer to note Delivery Date.
