69 2500hd 8.1

Well, I've been lurking here a while and finally some stuff is falling together. I'll just do some cliff's on what all is happening with this thing.

I picked up a parts truck last summer, a 2001 8.1/allison 2500 HD GMC, it's a Regular cab long box truck. It was kind of beat up, but it was worth what I paid.

Long story short, it's a parts truck.

So, I was going to drop the whole drivetrain into my 83 c30. I've been figuring out what I've needed to do for a while, and I was planning on working on it this week. Well, 2 weeks ago I ran into a buddy of mine with a 1969 C10 he wants to sell. Well, he wants my cab/box/front clip, in return I get his.

Here are some cell phone pics. It's rough, needs rockers, but the rest of the body is SUPER straight. I work at a body shop so I plan on hitting this thing full on this summer once the cab is on and the thing runs properly. I want a nice driver/truck to pull my 5.3 Monte with to the track and haul stuff with. This truck is going to get used and abused.

Got the 2500 down to the chassis, and heading to his house tomorrow to make the trade, I'm hoping to get the cab mounted by the end of the week and hopefully the steering done on it at least.

Finally got the cab home, the floor is super solid, but the rockers and the rear cab corners are aweful. The bed sides are great too which pleases me.

My cab mounts came in the mail, I'm pretty much going to go with a set up like 1tonwannabe went with on his Duramax.

Now I need to get a chain hoist hooked up in the shop so I can get the cab up in the air and do some body work to it.

This should be fun!

Finally got some time to come home and get a few things rolling. Took out the inner fenders and just set it down on the chassis. Mounting this front clip looks like it is going to be SUPER easy. The front bumper comes out a bit far for my liking, but that will be dealt with later.

I've been busy out doing this kind of crap, which kind of slows down truck progress :D

Got a lot of work done this weekend, still got more to do.

Just setting on there now, had to notch out the rear of the cab a bit to fit around the frame.

Started on the pedals expecting it to be awful, ended up finishing them all in about 6 hours. Super happy with how it worked out, I ended up using the stock 69 brake pedal and making an extension for it. The gas pedal just took some witch craft, and needs a bit of side to side bracing.

Finally got all the cab mounts made/welded on. Don't judge the welds haha.
Now on to the front radiator support and the mounts for it. It looks like it will line up with the stock 01 mounts, but about 4 inches higher so I'm going to figure out what I can do for it.

Did you make it sit higher so the bed would match? I'm starting on something similar, but with a longbed extended cab 2500HD. I plan to use a stake bed though.

Re: 69 2500hd 8.1

On that brake pedal extension, I would add a piece to the top and bottom where it is bolted to the strut rod. Basically making a "c" around it. It would be really bad to have that thing pivot in a panic stop.

I made that mistake already once so I will agree with you Stryker
