Shop truck build
1 Attachment(s)
I was on the forum a few years back and posted that I was starting a build...well, life got in the way Big Time and that project ended before it begun...
But now things have turned around and it's time to give my old gal Annabelle her much deserved makeover... I pay the bills by dismantling old barns and building custom furniture out of the barn wood... I like to combine old industrial metal pieces into my builds and my work has been described as hot rod furniture, so I decided that I need a hot rod shop truck Today I ordered a set of Ridler 695 wheels 20"x10" rear 18"x9" front...they come in Tuesday... On the following Tuesday, my Girl goes to Greg's Paintshop where my good friend Greg will smooth out her cellulite and varicose veins and dress her with a flat hot rod black...my shop logo will then go on the doors... Since she will be a work truck, I decided to go mellow on the drop and I have a bell tech 3/4 kit on the way... The motor is still up in the air...I have a 1970 396 that needs a home, but I'll probably go with a crate of some reliable size... I am pic crazy and I video everything, so I will be posting quite a bit as this moves along... |

New wheels came in early! I still need to clean up and paint the calipers and drums, but I couldn't wait and had to slap them on!
Lowering kit should be in soon! Let me know what y'all think! |

Suggestions wanted...the truck will be painted hot rod black (satin) and the inside of the cab will remain red...should I paint the calipers and drums black or red?
|
Re: Shop truck build
Honestly paint the calipers black. I think if you go red the eye will be drawn to them and not the truck as a whole.

Thanks 75 Chevy Guy...I agree! I'm gonna have my studio logo painted on the doors and the red will clash
|
Re: Shop truck build
The wheels will look killer once the truck is lowered.
|
Re: Shop truck build
What about silver wont stand out as much as red and gives a lil contrast, a good thing about black the brake dust doesn't show as bad.
|
Re: Shop truck build
Not a bad idea PapaBear! I think I'm gonna go with black...I can always change it later...

Re: Shop truck build
Here's a vid of what the old girl has been doing for the last several years...after her fix up she's getting promoted to sales...

These 1st year 4.3 liter V-6's are horrible engines...it has to go!!! Think I'll keep the A/C though...
|
Re: Shop truck build
What do you hate about the early 4.3's? I had one in a 1988 s-10 blazer and it was great. Are you having problems with yours?
|
Re: Shop truck build
ChevDog...It's not the 4.3 in General...it's the early 4.3's...the best comparison I can make is the 1st year of the Harley Evo engine...it was a combo of old and new and somewhat of a red headed step-child...
|
Re: Shop truck build
What year is your truck? I just looked at the photos a little closer, and it looks like you might have a carbureted 4.3. What kind of trouble has it given you?

Re: Shop truck build
That old dirty lumber is hell on machinery and tooling.

Re: Shop truck build
Sooooo, here it is 3 years later and things are finally starting to move. I should rename this post "Trying to build my truck on life's terms!"
So the progress is that I have a '75 350 out of a parts truck under the hood and it currently sits in black primer. It's only in primer cause the feller I hired to paint it satin black said he was doing me a favor and shot it in grey rhino-gard...that favor took my 1 whole day to peel off (very long story on that disaster!). Just got a front suspension/steering kit from Performance Online that looks quite beefy and a 3/4 drop setup from Belltech...photos are a coming... |
