transmission crossmember '57 3100
 

Hi guys. I have a 57 chevy I just put a mustang II front in and I was looking to get a new trans crossmember. Do I need to just get a regular one for a 1957 truck or do I need a certain drop? I see I have several different size drops to choose from. im looking at the tubular style bolt in kind from speedway, cpp, classic, ect. Last thing I need to get so I can get my cab back on:) Thanks

Set up your motor so the carb base is parallel with the main frame, that will give you about 4 degrees down at the transmission and keep your carb level. Then start measuring, seems like each application is different. 57 did not have transmission crossmembers, the bellhousing were supported and the trannys hung loose. You might look and see if a mid 70's truck one will work, the did have trans mounts. Or it is easy to fab one out or tubing and flat stock.

That will be easy while its still down to a rollin frame. I had thought about making my own but keep seeing the ready made tubular ones, just didn't know if there was a certain drop that kinda went along with a MII frontend. ill set it in and start measuring..

Sounds like a plan. Mounting the engine like I said also sets your drive line angle correctly unless you are severely static dropping the back.
