Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Hey guys, I'm almost at the point of installing my steering shaft set up and Dave said it would be recommended to get an aftermarket steering column to make installation easier. I'd rather not spend another $400 & I'd like to use my factory tilt column. Have any of you installed the mild or touring drop member and used your factory column (tilt or non tilt)? Pictures and and measurements of the two shaft set up would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks, Wade |

No one?

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Rwade, do a forum search on "Porterbuilt Dropmember and steering Linkage." I recently came across a thread about the use of three knuckles and a support bearing for steering shaft installation. If you can't find the link, I recommend contacting Dave at PB, he'll point you in the right direction.

Also, Travis at Pro Performance may be able to assist as we'll.

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
I did contact Dave to see if he could contact some other people who have bought the mild kit last week, I guess he hasn't gotten any responses to forward me? I have since figured mine out. I will do that search just to see what comes up. I did a different search last week, but one word different will or can yield completely different results. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it.

Innovative thinking at its best. That's what I really enjoy about this site......the sharing of great ideas lead to the next great idea, and the next, an so on :chevy:

Thanks! I agree totally. So many people on here that have helped me out I've lost count.

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Nice job Wade, I already have an aftermarket flaming river column so I'm guessing mine will be a little different. Thanks for the pics though, should help a lot when I get to that point

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Thanks Keith, if I can help with any details let me know. It maybe very similar due to you having the column shifter as well. We'll see.

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Thanks for posting pictures. I get customers asking as well, and this will be a good source to reference. Also, it will help having a 30" column, if you are going with an aftermarket column.

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
No problem on the pictures Travis. I searched for anything before doing mine and couldn't find any. The 30" column would've made it that much easier, but I had a factory tilt and wasn't gonna spend another $400 or so. I was able to use it as is. There is no binding at all. I do however measure 8 tines and cut once and the adjust. Lol!

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Ididit has multiple finishes, but for the polished aluminum (tilt / column shift), it would be 1050300040. That doesn't come with a shift indicator, but can be added. This is a universal column, but can be installed like a factory column. They don't make a direct fit in the shorter 30" length.
Flaming River is the same way, not making a direct fit 30", but the universal will work. FR20021PL will have the shift indicator, and FR20023SS will not. Both being a tilt / column shift in polished aluminum. We are also a dealer for both, if you decide on one of those. - Travis |
Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
Thank you for the pics!
JoesBruiser also had a great idea...Post 71. I'm not sure how difficult it would be though or if it would work with headers/ram horns: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=587637&page=3 |
Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
That is a good idea. I think it would work with the ram horns, and maybe with the headers. I'm using Sanderson LS headers

Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
RWade, nice work on the steering linkage! Any binding issues?
|
Re: Porterbuilt mild steering shaft pic request
No binding at all. I think it was unisteer parts that porterbuilt sent with the kit. I've used other brands but must says I like them the best.
