Back in the day

Im a old geezer aged 62. Back in the day in my late teen early twenties I raced a .030 ,283. it was 287 cubes. in a 63 chev short bed. I had extensively reworked (ported polished &cced)57 fuelie powerpack heads. a 30-30 solid lifter cam hedders and two 625 cfm carter AFB,s adapted to a port matched aluminum factory low rise 58 vette dual 4 four intake. Mallory dual point ignition & coil. Ran on both carbs full time wouldn't idle below 800 RPM. Used as much gas as a 427! I Went to the drags every sunday. back then they weighed you and placed you according to weight versus cubic inches. So I was always spotted a few car lengths ahead of the Camaros chevells ect. With a three speed and 430 gears and tuned entirely for RPM I wound to7500 before shifting.I actually beat a lot of high dollar cars with a $300 truck. Those trailing arms and the used slicks allowed me to launch very well. Blew the 283 and installed a 390 hp aluminum head 427. never won any more. still have what is left of the truck. Picture attached. sad to see it in the condition is in . but back when I parked and started stripping it. It was just another old truck.

Other than what the tree did to it that truck looks to be pretty solid. Neat story thanks for sharing.
