4L80E and case ????
Just bought a 2003 6.0/4l80e and whatever case is behind it. Found a guy that has a factory 4l80e and 205 from a late 90's truck. I need the pass drop for my next project. Questions will the 4l80e computer work with the older transmission???? Hope all that makes sense. I would like just to plug my 2003 transmission harness into the older 4l80e...

Re: 4L80E and case ????
chevy's didn't have an np205 since sometime in the 80's. I think 93 dodge 3/4 an 1 tons were the last production vehicles to get them.

They did come one year in the 1990 v3500 in that config. Just not sure if the electronics will work with the 2003 |
Re: 4L80E and case ????
Good info, will keep that in mind when I'm in the scrap yards. so do you figure his combo is from a early 90's v3500 and not from a late 90's?

1991 was the last year of the np205 and the first year of the 4L80E for GM. So that is the only year you could get that combo from the factory. Also it was the last year of the V trucks. If you wanted the 454 TBI and 4L80E and the np205 from the factory, the only truck to ever have that was the 1991 V3500 crewcab.

Re: 4L80E and case ????
I don't think it will. There were some mechanical differences that would not shift the same. I don't remember exactly but I had done some research on them years ago. Gm made 3 different 4l80e. I have both the early and late models right now. But you would run into two issues, one being a starting problem with the pcm. If it did start and go then you would most likely burn up the tranny or have shifting problems.
I am no expert but if my memory serves me correct.. Id say its a no go. |

Re: 4L80E and case ????
Jake's Performance has a Faq page. It doesn't come out and say it but it implies that older cores are used with newer LS engine…thereby implying that, yes, an older core will work with a newer computer….
The Neutral Safety switch may be an issue depending on the year of core. http://www.jakesperformance.com/4L80E_FAQ.html |
Re: 4L80E and case ????
You could always use the original 4l80e from the 6.0 and buy an adapter to fit a 32 spline input np205…. (there's a ton of different scenarios you could run)
