Leaf spring question
I bought a 14 bolt SF for my truck today from a wrecker, and it came with leaf springs.
The springs it has are 5 leaf with plastic inserts that hold the leaf's apart about the thickness of a credit card. I do not know the year this rear-end came out of, and for the price loaded I was not going to argue. My current 14 bolt FF has a 6 leaf pack with no inserts or plastic separators. I believe this to be a factory 79 K20 set-up. Is the 5 leaf pack a lighter duty leaf pack or a different version of a 3/4 ton spring? I am trying to soften the ride of the truck down to roughly a C10 ride for longer drives to fishing holes. |
Re: Leaf spring question
How thick is the leaf pack at the center bolt, and are the new springs longer from eye to eye or the same ?

Re: Leaf spring question
The same length, but I didn't think to measure pack thickness.

Re: Leaf spring question
Off a sf 14 bolt, I'd say light duty 3/4 ton springs. IIRC, late '80's early '90's GM 3/4 ton came in 2 versions. Light 3/4, with 6 lugs and a heavy 3/4 with the 8 lug wheels.
Not really sure what you've got, but I'm not above adding or subtracting leaves to get the spring I want. |
Re: Leaf spring question
The 14 bolt I got is for a 88, and later model. So I am going to try to exchange it tomorrow or I will have to modify it.
Either way the spring it has which I like will not work. Atleast not with out even more mods. |
