greasing new fuel pump

hey i'm about ready to put a new mechanical fuel pump on my 350 and have heard to grease it first. Do you guys do this and if so what kind of grease do you use. Thanks

I have always filled the inside with bearing grease, not sure what it does or if it is needed. Something my dad told me and have just always did it.

The grease also helps hold the gasket on till you get it mounted.

The only thing I've put grease on is the pump push rod to help hold it up inside the engine while installing the pump. Engine oil should do the lubricating that is required.

Grease doesn't break down in engine oil. I hope you mean lubriplate or assembly lube.
