New guy- question about electric fans.
Hey folks.
I have a '72 K10. Just installed the AC. Will be adding condenser electric fans (being shipped). The truck has a dual electric fan setup, but it was about 90 degrees the other day and the temp crept up a bit without AC connected yet. I'm worrying about L.A. 110 degree days sitting still on a "freeway" (parking lot!) with the AC blasting. Is there an electric dual fan that you guys KNOW will fit and work well on this truck? 350 with some kind of cam that makes it lope on idle. It just seems like this is not a new concept and someone somewhere knows for sure the "BEST" one to use. If anyone has more than anecdotal suggestions (like CFM comparisons, one having been used in extreme conditions like mine by multiple users, etc) I would be most grateful! (I'm not opposed to wrecking yard options). Or do I just go back to the belt driven fan and be done?:new: |

Going back to a stock fan/shroud would be the easiest route.

Well, with the aluminum radiator and pulley set up it's not just "bolt the stock parts back on". This is how I got it.
I found a Flex-A-Lite 298 that seems to be right? <ine are pullers but 12" and they don't cover entirely. That may be "a" problem. But they seem weak. Small motors. I can't even find them on the net to get the CFM rating. The 298s seem much larger and will cover the entire surface almost perfectly. Thoughts? |

Locate a stock shroud and a fan that fits in the opening well (both fore and aft as well as diameter. I have air on my 72 big block and don't overheat. It has a stockish fan, shroud and a double pusher set on the condenser, but they have never come on...in 12 years of daily driving. It has the old stock small block radiator as well.

The 298 seems a good fit.
You're running all electric with no problems? Do you know the CFMs of the radiator fans you're using? Ever run the air sitting in gear not moving for an hour in 110 degrees? (I'm in L.A.) |
