1972 Cheyenne

My grill looks more gray and rather dull. Was it originally more of a mild metallic silver, or gray?

Yes, the aluminum grill surrounds were originally anodized which gave them a bright metallic look. Over the years the anodizing wears off and they get that dull look to them. The only thing you can do to get them shiny again is to strip off all of the anodizing and polish them. Some folks say you can remove the anodizing with oven cleaner but I have never tried it. I think it would be a lot of work.

I know there are some threads on the subject and if you type "polish grille" into the GOOGLE search box at the top of this page you will find them. Type your search words into the box, click on the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the GOOGLE button.

I was referring to the plastic, egg crate grill, not the surround.

The plastic was painted Argentina and it is a metallic silver. They faded grey over the years

What kind of luck have you had repainting the grills? I don't want the silver coming off when I run into bugs.

I haven't looked for it, but does anyone make Argentina or is something else the same?

The color is argent silver, the original is not glossy but more of a matte finish and is available from details paint among others

Rust-Oleum Silver Aluminum is very, very, close to argent silver with a tad more sheen, not glossy, and very durable.
