Dash Color Change Brown to Red
I just bought a dash pad off Craigslist. Really great condition, original dash out of an 86 GMC. It's the dark brown color. I need to change the color of it to burgundy/ carmine red.
Should I paint it or dye it? What's the best product to use? And how hard is this color change in general- dark brown to carmine? |
Re: Dash Color Change Brown to Red
I'd recommend SEM Color Coat.
But no matter what you use, the key to having it stick is all in the prep work. Give it a good thorough cleaning to make sure the surface is free of any dirt, oils, or products like Armor All that may have been used on the dash pad in the past. Shouldn't be too hard to go from brown to a dark red. I re-colored a black dash pad to medium blue for my '74 Nova and if I remember correctly it only took about 3 light/medium coats. |
Re: Dash Color Change Brown to Red
I figured that it was an easy color change, because the colors are fairly close.

Re: Dash Color Change Brown to Red
Maybe someone out there has the carmine dash pad you need and you could make a trade. Just an idea.

Re: Dash Color Change Brown to Red
I have the brown dash pad. My original carmine pad was ruined over the years. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
