looking for pics of 1969 maroon factory paint
 

I havent had any luck selling my truck so I may just go ahead and paint it.my truck retains the original maroon paint

But mine has a lot of patina so id like to see what one with fresh paint in that color looks like, if not I guess I can kick around other paint colors, just not sure what id want to do.i did find a newer metallic maroon/burgundy I liked.

It is very much a metallic color and firstowner69 is the guy to talk to about a correct color match. He was very helpful to me with the color having just finished the restoration of his CST/20 517 truck he bought new. While I have pictures of his truck I think he should post his favorite.

Before making the decision you may want to take a look at this thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=626618 or try reaching out to one of the forum members known for polishing up an oxidized paint job. Also remember that it's only original paint once any many buyers will look at a fresh paint job and wonder what it's hiding i.e. tons if bondo, bad body work, etc. plus the cost of a quality paint job would be quite substantial. I wish the previous owner of my truck hadn't repainted it but at least he left the door jambs, fire wall and interior alone. As far as the original color of your truck I believe it's a one year 1969 color only Maroon Poly. Poly means metallic. My truck is medium gold poly. The metallic particles are very small so they would only be really noticeable in a close up photo. By the way. I wish my truck was a 69 maroon poly truck. If I could swing a frame off restoration it would be a complete repaint in that color.

Hmmm maybe I will repaint it the factory color. My paint is more worn, weathered than the guys who are buffing theirs.i used a cleaner wax , rubbing compound, while it did improve, it is still not that great.

Guess I may search out a paint/body guy

Per Tim's request here are pictures of mine. #1 is 2 weeks after purchase in 1969. #2 is in 2010 before restoration. #3 is with restoration almost finished last fall. New paint is base/clear matched to the glove box door.

Thanks for the pics, I can say that they have pushed me to repaint it the factory color.

I guess the plus is that my truck is very straight minus a few minor dents.

It has some rust when you open the doors , near the edge of those chrome step plates

What type/thickness metal should be welded in ?

Guess my project truck isn't done after all.

Haha good point. I guess I meant as far as I planned on taking this one.

Original plan was to revive her from sitting in previous owners yard for 30+ years

I had opted to keep the patina and spend on everything else, then enjoy it for a bit then sell it and let someone else have fun with her.

Ive got multiple other projects to finish (1955 chevy car straight axle gasser, 1949 ford 2 door sedan, chopped /airride full custom, and an all original 1965 sunbeam tiger mark 1a with 31k original miles)

In my case, I thought how the heck am I going to clean up that frame and engine compartment without stripping it to the frame. Well, as long I'm going to get the body parts off why not have then redone. Hmm, as long as I have the chassis exposed why not replace everything that moves, Oh, why not a few upgrades while keeping it true to what it always was. I guess that's why they say one thing leads to another.

By the way, that picture with the camper was taken not too far from you near Big Bear Lake.

Haha , it totally does snowball. No old vehicle ive owned EVER goes as planned or stays on budget.

Wow, thats cool.big bear is a beautiful area, thats where I go to go snowboarding.

The maroon really looks sharp when new or in good shape.

Lol on my truck the paint is worn/faded/rougher in various areas. It still looks good, but after seeing your guys trucks I think my truck could look alot nicer with paint

itll be fun to see the finished product and I think itll be worth the time/effort/$$$

You could probably bring some life back to that paint. However, it will take some elbow grease.

I'd buff the entire truck with 3M perfect II compound with a sponge pad. Then, do a swirl remover by machine with sponge pad. Hit it with a some good polish (using a machine and seperate pad) and a couple coats of good quality wax.

I use to use Zymol products. However, I'm slowly make the the move over to Adam's Polish. http://www.adamspolishes.com/

It's worth a few hundred dollars to see if you can correct before spending thousands.

I'm gonna take more pics roch, my truck is pretty weathered. The roof paint was damaged not sure by what, it is cracked the whole way across, its by far the worst area.



if the truck wasn't so damn straight I'd never even consider repainting it factory color.a buddy of mine runs a paint store so he said he is gonna hook me up deals on all needed materials.

My younger brother has never owned an old car, so I may sell it to him following the paintjob.

Its funny I get more enjoyment on the cars I'm building for family than my own stuff.

My truck is fairly straight also. However, I replaced the cab because there was a ton of hidden rot when I bought. I was hoping to paint just the cab and get away with it. That didn't work out quite as I hoped. So in a few weeks it's going in to have the whole truck repainted.

I have two small rust holes on the fender that will be fix and a few dents in the box. That being said, I was quoted $3000 in labor. (I have all the materials with the exception of 2 quarts of base coat). I'm using RM paint and for the two quarts of the base it's roughly $700 (the mix contains gold and red, which are the two most expensive colors).

I could go with a cheaper base like Omni, but I've heard of way to many issue with that brand paint.

It was offered per the color selection chart. But I don't have a 69 Blazer SPID coded 517 to prove production.
