Welp....guess its time to do it
Im gonna tackle the window motors in my truck haha. They have pretty much come to a stand still. I hope this is my problem and not my wiring. It shouldnt be wiring since its all new for the most part.
I am really dreading it. Anyone wanna do it for me?? haha |
No, but when you do yours and get good at it, come and do mine. :)
Mine are getting slower and slower. The engine has to be running in order for me to raise them up. I need to get to work on mine also. |
mine too hehe!! In fact the passenger side wont go unless I "assist" it haha
|
both of y'all bring em to NJ ill do it ( this way my kid can learn before he does his own LOL)
|
I'm just curious. Where is the best place to buy good window motors at? I'm not worried about price, just want the best. I only want to do this once.
Also, does anyone make any that are faster than the stock ones? |
We have a place here where I got my alternator that sells window motors and other electrical motors including hi-torque mini-starters cheap :D . Might contact him and ask him.
Midwest Electrical 1-888-617-7331 and aask for Fritz. Tell him Steve and Brandon from the Southern Bowties told you about him. He's local here in the area. Midwest |
I thought you were gonna say "It's time for me to grow a pair and bag my truck" :D :D Good luck. :bowtie:

you know mine were very slow...took the door panels off and lubed every thing.and sprayed silicone into the fuzzy window slides and WAMMO....PROBLEM SOLVED....:flag:
|
5-8....eat me bish!! hahahaahaha
You need to drive to OK and fix my rust!! Mark....I tried that. worked the first 10 times I did it...now They are dead!! haah |
Got to be better than replacing a window motor in my wifes 99 Z28. The doors are made of fiberglass!! IT SUCKED!! Also motors in the truck are not too bad at all. Make a mark at the top left hand slide rail so you know which slide to put in first last etc.
|
Take lots and lots and lots of pix... I need to do the same thing :)
|
It's easy once you cut a little "door" to change out the motor.
|
i have looked at changing mine.. and a "door" sounds like the right idea. hell its behind the door panel anyways!
|
window motors in trucks are alot easier than cars. doors in trucks have a little more space
|
Manual winders...:metal: :D
|
I havent even tried it yet and was already looking at doing the "access Panel" hehe

** HI-JACK ALERT**
Ok, are power any harder/easier than replacing manual window regulators? My drivers side regulator is worn out & needs replacement . . .... any tips or suggestions???
|
Yeah a pic would be nice! :)
|
your manual window regulator is worn out?? what your left arm is hurt or what haha You might want to see a doctor if its worn out!! lol
|
Even though I've never changed out a window motor, it can't be all that hard. I plan on doing this in the near future, as quick as I can find some good replacement motors. Till then, check this article.

No, don't cut a hole in the door. It would take longer to do that than it would to change them.
I just got done (30 minutes ago) putting some new motors in my 85. It's not hard at all. It took about an hour per side. Use the photos and article I posted above. Clamp the regulator in a vise before removing the motor. If you don't, the spring will close the regulator and it would be a biotch to get it back right. The hardest part of this whole thing was getting the rollers back in the track. You have three of them, one on the door, two on the window channel. But this wasn't hard. I searched the internet for new motors. Cheyenne Pickup had them for $59.95. LMC Truck had them for $69.95. My local Chevy dealer had them for $118.00 wholesale, retailed at $176.00. Well everyone who knows me, knows which ones I got. I thought real hard about being able to buy both for the price of one at the dealer, but, something tells me they would be trash, made in Taiwan pieces of crap. I bit the bullet and bought them from the dealer for $118.00 each. AC Delco, made in the USA. Anyway, man, you wouldn't believe the difference. My windows fly up and down now compared to what they were doing. I compared the passenger side to the drivers side after I got it in. It would be all the way up before the drivers side was even a third of the way up. Even then, the drivers side would stop at about half way. I would have to start the engine before it would make it all the way. I have no idea how good the cheap motors would be. Like I have said many times, I wanted to do this once and be done with it. I didn't feel like buying the cheap ones and them last a year and quit one me. We all know, you get what you pay for, right? :) |
