Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Hi guys. I have some random updates on my swb. First its down for the count. A short count but a count no less. When I dropped my 86(now 73/4) I used a flip from specialty retail. Great price great product by the way. I took my overload spring out in the hopes my springs would sag a little to give SR flip a little extra as its like a 5" drop and the others seem closer to 6". Well this caused excessive spring wrap and you guessed it..
Wheel hop like it was Its J O B. Has anyone else had this experience? Here's the prob I broke the spring perch where it welds to the axle. It basically started peeling off from the back to front. So I'm taking this opportunity to Just weld some perches under the axle and correct my pinion angle the best I can to help alleviate a nasty vibration in the driveline at higher speeds I'm now at 6/8 drop with a flip and 2" shackles so my pinion angle is almost 0* across the board, a t-56 and 3.73 means That shaft is really going.. Next problem is that pushed my rearend ahead just enough that I need a little shorter driveshaft. Grumbles. Any way has anyone experienced the wheel hop or the 0* pinion angle? Will my overloads fix the wheel hop? My tranny is about 2.5* down so I'm thinking of putting my rearend up 5* sound right? Anyone else break perches with a flip kit? |
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Up at 2.5°
Mine had violent hop until both shocks leaned forward and cal trac bars. |
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
I did the same rear drop on my truck and I don't have the shaking at high speeds or the bounce... Do you have drop shocks back there? The problem I do have is the spring wrap.. I hope someone can chime in on how that can be fixed..

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Sorry. I forgot to say tranny is down at 2.5 rear end was up at 2.5 both from level to make it a direct straight line so I'm thinking doing up 5* on rear end to make it a +2.5 relative

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
I have shocks with appropriate travel however I do not have shock relocation brackets

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Isn't the pinion yoke higher than than the slip yoke?
|
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Its in a direct straight line at 2.5* down when sitting at ride height on a 4 post lift...the slip yoke physically sits almost even with the pinion yoke because of a slight rake in the truck

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Dang it they don't give Cal trac away. Do you think overloads and correct shock.angle would fix the hop?

Hope this helps |
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
I thought parallel is what you wanted in 1-3* ? Maybe my drive shaft was a little long? Should I.bring it back to in line before I weld my perches on?
|
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
I thought u-joints were not supposed to be in a straight line? Parallel or the diff at a mod angle as stated before? Should be lots on the internet under 4 link setup angles.

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
Thinking about this as I sat on the toilet in the middle of the night...where all the best problems get solved... I think I actually need to drop the tranny 2.5* raise my pinion yoke 2.5*. Now does anyone know off hand the distance from motor mount to the tip of the tailshaft on a t56 or 700r4? Then I CNN do the math on how much I need to drop. On the wheel hop I could just build a set of ladder bars right? Or is That a bad idea on a street car?

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
your drive shaft should never be in a dead straight line it actually creates more vibration than necessary
|
Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
That's what I thought. It just happens to be where it landed. But ill straighten is out so to speak when the weld gets laid on the new perches

Re: Am i alone in this experience with a flip?
I think you are right low-life u joints need some angle. Always thought the trans was level and the diff angle is set slightly upwards at 2.5* or thereabouts? Should be lots of info on the 4 link websites?
