install a Chip or Don't insall a Chip ??

That is my question
I bought a 2006 Chevy Duramax , and just took a 1000 mile trip...I have owned the truck for a year or so now and in town it gets 15 mpg or less ,,so my question is should I install a chip to help me pout pulling a travel trailer

This is what I got with "out" towing a travel trailer ..made a mistake and said with a trailer..so I edited it correctly

I got 18.75 mpg a going and coming back I got 19.6 mpg

I kept the speed at 62mph as close as I could both ways..

I was told that if I put the edge chip in my truck I would get 6 more miles per gallon @ a cost of about $400

Is these chips really worth it ? and will I get the 6 mile extra like I was told?

I searched this out on this forum but couldnt find my exact questions //

I bought a Bullydog programmer for my 6.0 liter. Like it very much. Fairly easy to install. Bought mine off ebay for less then 400 bucks. Hope that helps.

I had to take my truck in for emissions test yesterday and the guy said that people with a chip turn them off when getting the test,,also he said he never has had to fail a diesel truck yet.. not sure how long he has been testing ,,but thats what he said..

If you really want a plug in programmer you want a PPE. Edge is a big name because they were kind of the first ones to offer big numbers for diesels but today their stuff is just not up to par. I would be blown away to see that kind of mileage increase. I got 2-3 mpg more with my plug in programmer and now I get 1-2 with my tuned ECM, but I also get a lot more power.

If you're open minded, you can get much better performance by going to duramaxtuner.com or another EFILive tuner and ordering a tuned ECM.

As far as emissions testing, diesels don't even get emissions tested in Texas but if that's the case where you're from it would probably be a good idea to put your tuner to stock when that time comes around.
