Brake release handel
I can not get the old emergency brake handle off to install the new one I bought. What is the best way to get the old one off so I can install the new handle? Thanks

Re: Brake release handel
You'll be far more likely to receive useful answers in the appropriate section of the forum. You're in the detailing section here.

Ok, but thought that was detailing

Re: Brake release handel
Detailing = cleaning, polishing, paint correction, waxing, etc. I'd suggest the section devoted to the particular body style you're working on (guessing it would be the 73-87 section by your screenname).

Re: Brake release handel
:mm:I just replaced the original brake release handle on my 1969 Chevrolet C10. It was difficult to unscrew. You might first spray with WD40 and then try again. Turns counter close wise as I recall. Took some effort, but it finally unscrewed.

Re: Brake release handel
I replaced mine awhile back. There are no threads, just two tabs. To get the old one off you need to break the plastic where it wraps onto the rod. Use some side cutters or a dremel. The new one pushes on very tight. May go on better if you heat it up slightly (very slightly), push it on and let it cool. Be careful not to bend the rod.
