1960 exhuast question

Hi Guys
I have a 1960 gmc stepside. I am installing a fresh 454 and am looking for exhaust solutions. I would love some input.
My ideas .......would love to install headers and sidepipes or headers and duals out the back. Does anyone know what headers or sidepipes could work.
Or anyone have some ideas or alteratives.

Thanks

Re: 1960 exhuast question

The problem you'll have is routing: the pipes have to run through/under the torsion-bar cross member/X-frame.

What I did is kept the stock exhaust manifolds, ran them down and installed an X-pipe, then ran them back and had them exit the sides ahead of the wheel openings.

You could use block-hugger headers and an X-pipe, and it'd fit everything real nice, and real clean.

Because of the way things run down there, the '60-'62 trucks had a removable trans tunnel, and to service the trans, the tunnel had to come out and the trans was lifted out through the hole in the floor.

On the next go-round with my truck, I'm going to put 2.5-inch Rams Horns and the X-pipe and run them out the back, dumping out the sides right ahead of the rear bumper.

Check my build thread. I have mine run down middle like x and mufflers in middle. Plus the old side pipes had ram horns and went above torsion bars.

Thanks guys

I love the side pipes ..... That's the way I'd like to do it. Just not sure what manifold or header to use and if there is room with the big block.

First its going to be loud. Second the side pipes I had blew out with the 406 small block at 9.5:1 compression. Here are some considerations... Always call to confirm this will work.
