brake parts for a 10 year old mcgaughy's drop spindle 6 bolt disc swap
My pop did the swap some years back and I'm trying to rustle up parts for a freshen-up.
I'm told they (mcgaughy's) use the 79-86 pads, rotors, calipers, and hoses---is this right? The truck also has a manual big block corvette master cylinder from the same company. Any idea what year parts i need to order? Basically the truck sat for a couple years and our climate here in the PNW kills dot 3 if it sits. Rust water doesn't work so great as a hydraulic fluid. Any help is appreciated. |

Wish I could offer insight but I've never used McGaughys stuff. My bet is the parts will be based on 73-80's 1.25" HD option. Post-80 thru 87 could be Lt duty or HD. Measure the thickness of the rotor & that will tell you.

with the 6 lug rotors, you might need to talk to a McGaughy dealer for the rotors...

All 6-lug aftermarket conversion rotors are the 1-1/4" width.
71-80 HD brake parts will work. |

i'm gonna get a new battery for my measuring stick and check again. |
Re: brake parts for a 10 year old mcgaughy's drop spindle 6 bolt disc swap
Those are roughly the same measurements as a front rotor for a light duty 1990 Chevrolet C2500. Those years (1988-1996) the factory made a 6 lug light duty (7200 lb GVW) 3/4 ton truck that was 6 lug front and rear instead of the traditional 8 lug. The heavy duty 3/4 ton (8600 lb GVW) had the 8 lug set up...
This rotor on RockAuto.com is what in could be: CENTRIC Part # 12166012 C-TEK Standard Disc-Preferred Front; 11" Rear Drum; 7200lb GVW The picture of tied to that part number is a drawing with the dimensions listed. It shows a nominal thickness of 1.28" and an OD of 11.61". It uses the standared A3 outer bearing and the A5 inner bearing. Those are the same bearing used in the 1985 1/2 ton HD brakes. That just might be the correct rotor for your spindles. |
Re: brake parts for a 10 year old mcgaughy's drop spindle 6 bolt disc swap
I sure appreciate the help! I'll pull the pads this weekend and get some proper numbers to go by. Got everything else but the pads and rotors for the front. I wanna get it all done between school ending and roofing season getting started.

Re: brake parts for a 10 year old mcgaughy's drop spindle 6 bolt disc swap
yikes, still struggling here
pulled the calipers and i'm 99% sure they are the venerable d52 bore diameter is ~2.95" and the mounting pins are ~7" apart on centers the rotors are in good enough shape to turn, so I can dodge that for now, although i think Aggie91 has found the right stuff on rock auto. another question, I've never used anything but stock type organic pads. I'm not all that concerned about dust, noise or maintenance, but the truck has manual brakes so modulation and stopping power are what I'm after. Any recommendations on pad mat'l? |
