72 c20 flip question

Hi, I had completed searches for a DIY flip kit with negative results. Is it possible? Can I make my own perches and what other things would I have to be aware of? Need the c20 dropped in the rear. Thanks for any help.

Get some round u-bolts and spring plates from a 73 and up truck. Make some 2 1/4" spring mounts out of square tube and go to town.

If you have 2 1/2" springs then make the mounts that width. IME, Longhorns are the only 2 wheel drive with the wider spring. By making the housing mounts out of square tube, you can actually add more drop to the flip than with standard mounts, or less drop if that's what you need.

The mounts I have made in the past i cut the saddle using a 3" hole saw, but you could do it with a torch or plasma as well and clean it up with a grinder. The deeper you cut the notch, the less it will lower the truck. I would make the mounts 6" long or so and drill multiple spring centering holes so you can center the axle in the wheel well or get extension if the driveshaft looks like it might be too short.

Hey thanks for the info. What size( thickness ) of tubing should I use? And what would be the pinion angle? I'm guessing I'll have to mock it up and see what I get.
Thanks again

2 1/4" x 1/4" wall. Set the pinion angle the same as it is now.

This is what I am looking to do as well in the next couple weeks to my '70. Would either of you be able to post up a couple pictures? Any issue bottoming out without notching the frame? - Thanks

I'm planning on the exact same thing on my 72 C20. Mike C, we would definitely appreciate any pics you might have or can take of your setup.
