Figuring out to trade my k10 for a c10 in Socal

Hey All,

First time posting in the 73+ part of the forum, but always enjoy reading and scanning through pics on here.

Long story short, I have a bagged 64 and was really on the fence if I wanted to go up or down with the new square. I ended up going to the inlaws house to help on some house work over the Memorial Day weekend and ended up coming home with their neighbors squarebody, a K10 1980 Cheyenne model ,early build with the single round lights, that is a great un molested clean California vehicle. Everything works,no rust and runs good so of course as most of you would do, you start thinking and writing out plans of what you want to do to it. My problem is as I kept creating my ideas, everything was telling me to go low. (I already have a newer lifted truck for towing, wasting gas, etc.)

So now I have the option to find a 2wd frame/chassis and do a full swap since the body is so clean or chop up the 4x4 and adapt 2WD to it,which I know a lot would advise against since the 4x4's are harder to come by,at least around here...or lastly sell/trade someone for a 4x2 before I start ripping into it.

Any thoughts or ideas?

If the body is in really nice shape, finding a 2wd chassis should be a piece of cake. Then you could sell all of the 4wd parts to recoup some investment. Being a 1980 it should have a NP205 transfer case which are desirable. I'm currently doing the opposite, transferring a 2wd body on to a 4wd chassis. Have fun with which ever direction you choose.

The chassis swap pretty easy, but I did it by myself. Used an engine hoist to lift the bed, and some ingenuity to do the cab. I kept the cab and front clip together. Worked like a charm. There are some pics in my build thread in the 4x4 section.

I'm not sure why you'd buy a 4x4 and make it 2wd. Especially if you're starting with a decent 4x4, why cut it up? If it was a basket case maybe. If you want a 2wd you're better off holding out for one. Nice examples are still out there too.

Correct on the transfer case, along with everything else being in tact which is why I was on the fence as to what to do.

Typically I would not,but it was a case of right place, right time and right price.

Easy swap.
The frame will accept a 2wd cross member. I'm planning on doing the same when I find the right k5

I would sell off the 4x4 truck and use to money to buy a nice short bed 2wd truck.Or see if anyone wanted to trade you for it with maybe some cash your way.A 4x4 truck is always worth more then a 2wd.If that 4x4 is a short bed you can get some real nice money for it when you sell it too.
