1961 c10 apache
4 Attachment(s)
Hi everybody havent been on here in awhile. Anyways i just picked up a 61 apache i wanted to fix up wanted to get everyones opinion on it. Ive got a built stroker and trubo 400 im planing to put in it.
Couple of questions for you guys is there anywhere to get a steel reproduction apache hood? Also any sites that sell the little metal section on the outside of the headlights by the fenders, and would you recommend just patch panels for the lower section of the front fenders or just new fenders? |
Re: 1961 c10 apache
Welcome to the forum :D
No there are no reproduction hoods available for the '60-'66 trucks aside from fiberglass ones. The reproduction front fenders are a crap shoot as to whether they will fit or not. Some guys seem to have good luck with them, and others regret the purchase. Personally, I would just repair a decent set of original fenders. There are parch panels available that fit decent. If yours are rusted out in the front besides the headlights, you probably should find a better set. You should be able to find some there in Montana. How far are you from Missoula? |
Re: 1961 c10 apache
Thank you, dang that sucks lol the guy i picked up the truck from swapped the hood of it to his 63. Oh well thats good to know lol was about to buy some from LMC truck but if they dont fit that good never mind on that. Um im about 9 hours away from Missoula i guess ill have to search some more for a hood and fenders.

Re: 1961 c10 apache
Just curious is there anybody that makes custom driveshafts for these trucks or am i stuck getting the one on it cut and redone?
|
Re: 1961 c10 apache
You can have a custom one made..long as your good at measuring length. lol Welcome aboard! I like the truck and am diggin the engine! :metal:

Re: 1961 c10 apache
I would judt have your original driveshaft cut down. It isn't that expensive.
I asked about Missoula because fellow member jonzcustomshop is in Missoula. Between him and the local wrecking yard, you could likely find the hood and fenders you need. |

Re: 1961 c10 apache
You might send Jon a PM and see if he is going to be around this next weekend. He might have what you need or be able to point you in the right direction.

I think mine is driver side but will confirm later when I get off work.

Re: 1961 c10 apache
I have access to a hood that I believe to be a 61. Has a small dent in the top but I think it would come out fairly easy. The clip still has the fenders on it but they have been sitting in a ditch for so long that I think the bottom 4 inches would be gone. I am in eastern Nebraska so we are pretty far apart as well.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...930121804a.jpg fenders and doors from lmc well floors rockers corners well most of the cab. Yea repo parts have issues but by the time you hunt down new repairables and then repair time and parts there repo as well and usually provide for a good headache |

Re: 1961 c10 apache
I was wrong about my fender ,it is a passenger side in original paint and NO rust .

Re: 1961 c10 apache
Well i got i lucky and a friend of mine has 5 of these pickups was able to get some doors with good windows no rust, along with good fenders two apache hoods and a new bed lol. All for my 62 stepside cause he needs the frame, good thing to cause that 62 was really rough.
