I Hate Napa Premium belts
 

Has anyone had anyproblems with Napa's premium belts??
I had a shop look at all my pulleys on my '72 402..They said they were almost perfectly lined up..
But i have since had 2 belts thrown and litterally(spelling) come apart, alomst like my alternator stops then moves again..I get no squels or squeeks..but both belts have a smooth surface and then has the belt coming apart. Well when that one goes it rolled the steering and A/C belts..
The steering one was shredded..Which then cause the truck to rapidly over heat. The gauge pegged full. That sucked.But seems to run fine now.
I have never seen belts do this. and I mud race and have thrown belts with my blazer..
I have since put DAYCO belts on, and see what happens..

Just wondering about anyone elses luck with napa belts..

Oh yeah the original belt had no marking but had been on the truck for 3 years and was cracked.. Thats what made me change it in the 1st place..

I have used those belts with no problem. I wonder if your problem could be they are almost perfectly lined up - but not quite perfect enough? :confused:

Almost means withing a 1/16 of each other..
I have seen pulleys way off and not throw belts..
And this is by no means a high horse power motor

It's just kind of odd that i have thrown 2 of the same type. When the original had been on for longer without any problems..

I figure i'll see what these new belts do

I was throwing belts every time I ran my olds till I put a reduction pulley on the crank. It slows down all your other pulleys to about 3/4 of the engine speed. I have not thrown a belt since and it is frequently revved to 6 grand.

Well finally this weekend after I calmed down about overheating and throwing my second set of belts..
I went to napa with the 2 sets that came apart..
Guess what they had to say..

I must have gotten bad ones..
they have had a couple other people come in with ripped belts..

I wonder if they would have paid for a rebuild of my 402 if it had overheated real bad..
Doubt it.

But theygave me my money back
and an apology

but i'll still stick with Dayco belts

Maybe your truck doesnt like the taste of new parts on it. :D Just bad parts like they said. It seems NAPA is no longer a quality part joint anymore. They buy just as much stuff from China as any of the other part stores anymore.

I read an interesting article the other day about consumer industries in general.

It said that with the escalating cost of labor, it's much cheaper for a manufacturer to actually NO LONGER do quality inspections. It turns out that the added cost of processing returns of bad parts actually saves them money when compared to making sure the parts are good to begin with.

And, since there's no brands or anything on this, shipping bad parts doesn't affect your customer loyalty!

i got a set of napa belts for my GMC about 2 weeks ago, they are doing fine for me

just for sh*ts and giggles napa belts are made by gates........and thats all i`ll use on my 2 diesels that I run..(gates)..bodi
