1967 CHEVY C-30 with Gmc 305 big block v6. Just got her for $600. Not exactly sure where i want to go with this one. I'm not a genious with rebuilding but i dont mind getting dirty and and scraped up. Any ideas out there. Its a long horn i was thinkin about bringing it back to a dually with wooden flat bed and smoke stacks. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thansi

I remember looking at that engine for the first time when i was a kid and tipping out.I was like,"where are the other 2 spark plugs?"
(nice score for $600)

The only engine tough enough to wear plaid and get away with it.

Yes, that's a real picture. Some of the V6 GMCs had plaid valve covers.

Re: project "Gator Bait"

The V6 is a slow but very torquy engine. Those are very large pistons in that thing, and that is the small version. There is a 351 and a 702! That is two 351 V-6's tied to gether making one 702 V12! Rebuilding one is a challenge due to parts are few and far between. There is at least one web site dedicated to the Hurricane engines.

Being a long step (9ft bed) it is not really a Longhorn, but they often get called a longhorn for lack of a better term. If you go flat bed, noone will know the difference.

Re: project "Gator Bait"

That not the original bed for the truck. There is about a 1' gap between the bed and cab. What exactlly makes a long horn.

Re: project "Gator Bait"

Yeah that engine looks sweet. Are you going to rebuild it or just see if it runs?

gatorbait 06-04-2014 10:45 PM

Re: project "Gator Bait"

I already know it runs i drove it home when i bought it. Just needs altonater and battery. She runs great.

Re: project "Gator Bait"

I'd keep the v6 and lengthen the stepside bed the extra foot and the. Find some 8 lug steel rims from like a 72 and get some nice somewhat aggressive tread tired and keep the single wheels in the back. ( I know it's not a 4wd) I seen a 68 like this and man it looked cool! That just my 2 cents...
