Anyone know the exact height of the trim?

Truck is an 87 Silverado. I am putting new trim on my truck after having had it painted. I saved a little money not having the bodyman do a lot of stuff that I can do myself.

But I didn't consider one important detail. I dont know the exact height of the trim. With no old crusty lines from the old trim, I don't know how high up its supposed to be on the sides of the truck. To clarify, I'm talking about that rubber door guard stuff that runs the length of the truck, going all the way down the side.

Its this stuff, got it at Oriellys:

Does anybody here have a factory truck that still has that trim on it? Or at least those grungy old lines where it used to be? If so could you possibly take a measurement from the bottom of the truck? Preferably right at the bottom of that lip where the steel rolls over the underside. That way I'll know to just measure from the bottom of that and it will be easier.

Or, if someone somehow has access to that information perhaps from a shop manual or reliable web source or something. Last thing I want to do is get it wrong. :o

Re: Anyone know the exact height of the trim?

Hello, from what I remember where my trim/molding was before I peeled it off, it was dead center on the square fuel filler door on both of my bedsides, (dual tanks...if that helps any)

I would get some masking tape and start just under the rear tail lights and run that same piece of tape up to the side marker lights up front....should come out pretty close to the "center" of the fuel filler door...If not centered, maybe a hair below "center"

Wish I could help more with an exact measurement though!

Good luck! :chevy:

The side trim is lined up with the front marker light and at the rear it is centered under the taillight and the body line of the rear of the bedside. Run a a stripe of masking tape from the top of the marker light in front to the bottom of the rear taillight down the length of the body. Put your trim on the body below that tape line.

Here is a side shot showing where the trim is. I hope my explanation made sense..
