throttle cable issue

Is it possible to have a situation where the throttle cable is either adjusted wrong or bad and needs replacing?

My truck is running great, but it seems like it should be much stronger when I floor it. It just doesn't get up and go like a 350 should.

If it can be adjusted please let me know how!

Or if anyone has any other ideas as to why it wouldn't have the power it should.

The timing is correct, the truck has a brand new carb and all new ignition parts....it doesn't miss at all....runs really smooth

Thanks in advance!!

Check and see if the cable is binding, make sure you are getting wide open throttle. You may have the wrong size cable, the stock cable is not adjustable. If all else is well and it just feels like there is no power do a compression check.

Have someone press down on the petal with the motor off.......with the petal the whole way to the floor the throttle should be wide open. Or atleast that's how I was taught and how I always have done it.

Re: throttle cable issue

you can slightly oblong the holes in the throttle cable bracket that's bolted to the back of the carb to move it back slightly if your not getting WOT.
also the edeljunk carb will not make the same sound when the secondary's open as the quadrajunk carb that you originally had, to some people this makes then feel like it has less power.

if you need any help on it just let me know, jr

I'm not a mechanic, but you say the lack of power is when you floor it. Does the transmission downshift when you do this? If not you may have a problem with the kickdown mechanism.

Re: throttle cable issue

Thanks everyone!

I figured it out.

It was the little cable that attaches to the gas pedal arm below the dash. The cable has a little cable lock nut thing. It had way too much slack. The pedal was almost all the way to the floor in the default position. I took the slack out of the cable and cut the other cable nut off and put another adjustable nut on. Problem solved. This thing feels like a whole new truck now. It hauls ass!

I also thought I was having a problem with my kickdown cable because it wasn't kicking down into gear. Well it was just because I wasn't getting WOT. Truck is running great now. Burns the tires!!!!

Thanks for all the help!!
