Fender felt/welt
 

I have read older posts regarding fender felt/welt. Wish to know what everyone is using these days. Any vendor have an updated version.
The concern is always if the welting has a noticable or subtle appearance.

These trucks never came with gender welt from the factory so I see no need to install any. It may just be a moisture trap leading to ( more) rust, so why use it? You posted yourself you wanted "the least noticeable", what less noticeable than not being there at all?

That statement sir is total nonsense I have 4 cabs out here that you can see the remnants of original fender welt on. True a lot of trucks don't get put back together with it including my 48 but they came with it originally.
This photo if it works should be the remnants of the original
on my 51 1-1/2 ton. The fenders have never been off that truck to my knowledge.


Dansa2 In the 70's when I started fooling with these trucks it was real popular to go to the VW dealer's parts counter and buy the fender welting for VW bugs. Every Truck goodie vendor sells the welting in some form or other and some sell chrome welting. Hopes that helps answer the question.

I was taking about Task Force trucks but since the OP never stated what era he was talking about it is NOT "nonsense".

Thank you all for responding. I thought for the 50's trucks the welting was to prevent rattling. Noticed on vendors sites welting is depicted for hood to cowl and fender welts, etc. Do you think it is unecessary to use?
I'm concerned that bumps in the road will flex my truck a bit and body panels will rub against one another scraping, rubbing and grinding ohhh the thought is killing me to know for sure.

dansa2, if you don't want to use the stock type welting, you can check with the paint stores in your area for a double back tape. They should have it in thin to thick sizes. It's used for emblems, etc.. Stick one side to the fender, and leave the cover on the other side, should keep the paint from being chipped. You can also use thin rubber between the two pieces...Jim

Love them both, but also think they should have there own link as well!
