'56 BBW Patina Project

Well it seems I'm a glutton for punishment --- in addition to all my '60-'66 Suburbs, '67-'72 Stuff --- I now have a new project. It's a '56 BBW 3200 Step Side. It took about a year to acquire and it's now mine!!:metal::devil:
Project started by P/O about 3 years ago. Flat Out front & rear kit installed w/'91 Vette suspension, really good patina paint and very little rust (CA Mohave truck). Here it is as purchased, loaded and ready for trip from San Diego to Tucson. Oh yeah, and I bought the trailer from owner's brother.:lol:

Purchased on Friday, 6 June, 2014.
These pics are from today, Saturday, 7 June, 2014. Couldn't wait to check out stance w/polished wheels so, I bolted on rear fenders, driver's door & step and added hood with wheels & tires.:metal::chevy::metal:
Trying to decide to cut 3200 bed (9 1/4") to 3100 bed or leave as-is. Going to Powder coat frame and polish Vette aluminum parts, new glass, interior, new rubber and leave patina paint (maybe satin clear polyurethane top coat).

Nice truck, sounds like a great plan on redo. With the frame work already done, I think I would leave it a long bed, but that's your choice...Jim

Very cool! What are your plans for a power train?

Will be SBC Chevy ---- I have a few to choose from ---- not sure about trans --- Truck was originally Hydramatic --- I have a T5 5-speed but not sure I want to deal with clutch linkage --- any body have any suggestions for good clutch linkage??
Probably will go with 700R4 so I don't have to deal with clutch.

does your truck sit that low in the back naturaly with that vette IRS or is it clamped down with the red strap?
also is the chassis c-notched for the IRS?

It sits that low --- red strap is loose as I used jack to change wheels & tires. Strap is still there to secure truck for move to shop.
Flat Out says no c-notch req'd but I'm thinkin I do a small frame only notch before I Powdercoat frame -- just to be sure. ;-)

I'm also using Aldan coil overs from flat out with an installed length of 11 1/2" in rear per their install... I have a length of 1" sq. tubing in place of frt & rear shocks to set ride height...

Nice project with a lot of work done already. Hopefully the Flatout stuff was installed good. I'd say shorten it.
