My first post - I'm going to need a bed
A quick introduction...
My name is Jim. I just recently signed up on this board because I'm looking to get a vintage truck to tinker on and use for my weekend runs to Home Depot. Last night I looked at a '65 K-20 short bed that the seller was restored/customizing in his garage for the past 20 years or so but is ready to unload. Aside from some funky 1990's custom choices, the truck is in really good condition... except it needs a bed. It comes with the components for a short bed stepside set up from a 1975 Chevy, but I'd rather have a correct bed. Stepside or fleetside doesn't matter to me, since I'll be starting from scratch and this isn't strictly speaking a restoration project. I'll have other questions and I'm sure parts for sale should I pull the trigger on this truck, which I'm probably going to do later today. I don't have enough access to post in the Classifieds yet, so I'm starting here. I originally thought I was going to end up with a rusty project for my budget, but if I can get this truck all the work I'll need to do is mechanical. Or at least not rust repair. |

The fees help keep this site up also and well worth the money.

Re: My first post - I'm going to need a bed
they didn't make a K20 short wheelbase. As far as I know, all 3/4 tons (20 series) were long wheelbase. Something on that truck has been changed. Could be anything from the frame, to the axles, or as simple as the side emblems. 6 lug or 8 lug wheels?

Re: My first post - I'm going to need a bed
Done deal. Now all I have to do is arrange to get it moved from the garage it is in to my garage. Here are a few pics I took yesterday.

Re: My first post - I'm going to need a bed
Welcome to the forum! Truck looks like a nice start... with some upgrades already done, PS/PB sweet. One question...is that bumper off a later model, maybe 83-87?
What's your build plans? |

Re: My first post - I'm going to need a bed
The bumper is a square body 73-87 bumper not sure what year exactly, and you said he had 75 step side with it. i also noticed the power steering. Any chance that's a 75 frame with a 60' body on it? a pic of the back frame rail could help solve. almost looks like the rear cab mounts are c10 mounts bolted to the frame. I thought c20's had different ones.(could have been swapped either way)
not ment to rain on your parade just my observations. by the way it does look like a great start.:metal: |
